Chance Me! - UCLA

I really want to go to UCLA. It is my first choice but I don’t think I will get in. Please tell me what you think.

I live in CA, Asian, Female
GPA (UW): 3.8
GPA (W): 4.5 (only 10th and 11th grade)

SAT: 2230 (2260 superscore)
ACT: 34 (34/34/34/34)
SAT Math 2: 740 (I retook but haven’t received my score yet)
SAT Chemistry: 760
My AP scores are quite bad frankly…
AP World: 2, AP Lang: 4, APUSH: 4, AP Calc BC: 5, AP Chem: 3

My ECs are very lacking…

  • Marching Band for 4 years (not a section leader or anything)
  • joined a few clubs but was never very active in any of them
  • I sell stuff online and have made quite a lot of money but I don’t know if that is exactly impressive
  • I have gotten awards on the National Latin Exam all three years I have taken it
  • I am an officer in JCL (a Latin club)
  • I have a youtube channel where my videos have gotten alot of views (50,000+ each) but I just made my channel recently so idk

I’m pretty sure my letter of recs won’t be all that great because I am very quiet in class and don’t have close relationships with my teachers.
Things are not looking good for me. I really want to go to UCLA but I think what’s killing me are my almost nonexistent ECs. Please tell me what my chances are. Thanks!

UC GPA? http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

You look like an academically competitive applicant. UCLA does not accept Letters of Recommendation but will consider your UC essays and EC’s as part of their application review. Your EC’s are not non-existent, just nothing that stands out. AP scores are not considered in admission decisions but are used for getting college credit. Your grades and ACT are great, so you do have a good chance at an acceptance. UC’s do not superscore. Have confidence in yourself and apply, but have some good backup schools you are willing to attend, just in case.

Good Luck.

UC GPA is 4.17, thank you for your reply!

@monkeysfall Since UCLA is your first choice I’m going to give you the most accurate prediction I can based on gpa and sat score/academic factors.

In the recent fall class to UCLA the admit rate for students with unweighted gpa of 4.0 was 62% and the admit rate for applicants with sat scores in the 2100-2400 range was 52%. Now your unweighted gpa is a 3.8 which falls in 3.7-3.99 band that has a 27.11% admit rate since your in the median this means you have an admit rate ranging from 35%-40% based on gpa alone. Now your test score of 2230 puts you in the 2100-2400 band for applicants that has a 51.89% admit rate. Since you are at the upper end of that band your admit rate ranges from 60%-70%. Overall based on your gpa and test score you have a 50%-65% chance of admission to UCLA. Therefore your very likely to be admitted to UCLA based on gpa and test score alone.

Good accadimics: High match.

Thanks for your reply!

I think its a high match/low reach. grades and test scores are definitely on the high end. don’t be so down on yourself regarding ECs. I think they are better than you think! no, they aren’t excellent, but you do have things you can put down and talk about. for example, the youtube thing looks pretty cool and successful! ECs dont necessarily have to be about school, just show your passions!

50,000 views each? That’s an great ec. Elaborate on that in your application. If I may ask, what’s your channels name?
