As a community college student also looking to transfer to UCs, I learned that my biggest problem in high school that hurt my freshman apps was extracurriculars. I was a great student (4.71 weighted GPA by the end of hs) with pretty great recs and essays, but I lacked involvement. You need to find leadership roles; if they don’t come to you, make them! Taking initiative makes UCs take notice. Being a member and being a leader are entirely different, and really competitive schools like UCLA (my top choice) and Berkeley (your top choice) don’t have time for followers and participants. They’re churning out change-makers (in both senses $$$) and to study among them, you have to be the cream of the crop. Your grades look good, as long as you keep them up, and one comforting stat I found when I researched Cornell is that they take approximately 700 (20%) of their transfer applicants. As long as you round out your academics, you should be fine, especially since you’re transferring and already have some GEs under your belt. Best of luck!!
