IVYs are high reach due to your low sat. (unless you’re URM, but even if you’re URM, 2000 won’t cut it)

UCs should be fine at all the lower UCs up to UCSD, LA and UCB would have problems with your SAT, though if you are ELC, or top 4% of your class in your public school (assuming its in CA), then you should have a solid chance at those.

Nice GPA. Your SATs aren’t too bad, however, if you retake and increase by 80+ points, your resume will look even more exceptional. Your ECs are strong, so there should be no problems there. Most likely…

UCLA-low reach, ECs and GPA are match, SATs are a bit below average.
UCSD-match
UCB-low reach, same as UCLA. Sent your ACTs if your SATs aren’t raised by more than 80 points.
UCI- Match
UCSB-Match
USC-High Match. Good candidate for scholarships, which you might need due to the price tag.
BU-Match
Tufts-Match
Northwestern-High Match
uPenn-Reach, Essays will determine your admissions.
Columbia- Also Reach, work on essays and interviews. Definitely sent in ACTs if your SATs don’t jump.

freezing beast: do ivy’s accept ACT instead of SAT? Because i think my ACT is pretty good. Either way, I’m not expecting to get accepted there, although it would be quite nice UC’s are my target schools.

I’m in state (California), so that makes my chances better, right? I’m definitely in the top 10%, most likely top 5% (my school doesn’t have ranks) of my public school.

Yeah, I know. It’s absolutely devastating. Chemistry, I can somewhat understand. But US History? ■■■■… how much will those scores (not passing) effect my college acceptance?

Loncria: Thank you! That was honestly very relieving to hear! Do you UC’s prefer SAT over ACT? And if not, then am I solid with my ACT score or no? For example, with UCLA (sort of my top choice) if I just submit ACT, am I good?

Yeah I’m thinking of either doing ACT or SAT 1 more time. I can either get my SAT to 2100+ or my ACT higher than 33 (hopefully!) Which do you think?

If it’s a choice between improving your SATs or ACTs, definitely SATs, your ACTs are already high enough so that they can replace your SATs in case your score doesn’t improve. However, colleges tend to prefer SATs over ACTs.

Well I say that because it’s much rarer to see a 2200+ score on the SAT than its equivalent on the ACT. The answer lies within the test itself: the ACT is largely an achievement test while SATs assess your aptitude rather than sheer familiarity with a broad range of topics.

Don’t fret though, they’ll be much more impressed to see a higher score on the ACT. However, if the difference is minimal in terms of score between the two, I’d consider sending in the SATs. Alternatively, you can send both in, although it may detract from your performance on the higher of the two scores.
