Chance me - UCSB, UCD, UCLA

3.85 GPA
IGETC form will be completed by Spring 2012, math requirement is in progress but I have lab/english done.

I only have 20ish units excluding AP credits, but I'll have 40 by end of Fall and 60 by Spring.

Will applying with so few units hurt my chances? I think my GPA is gonna get hit because I'm averaging two C's, two B's and one A.

Majoring in Global Studies or Middle East studies. Whatever is the least competitive.

I'll be taking almost 20 units in Spring semester. I don't want to do that for nothing if my chances are low. I hear acceptance notices are sent out until march-may.

accidentally posted this in wrong sub-forum - <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/other-college-majors/1231757-chance-me-ucsb-ucla.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/other-college-majors/1231757-chance-me-ucsb-ucla.html</a></p>

UCSB = maybe
UCD = most likely
UCLA = tough if your gpa is going to go under 3.5

Also, just know that applying and getting into an easy major that you don’t actually want could backfire since you will have to go through an appeals process to switch majors once you get there.

In Fall 2010:
230 students applied for global studies, and 40 were admitted. 17.39%
48 students applied for middle east/ north african studies and 16 were admitted. 33.33%

^that’s for hs applicants though, but i think inflated percentages are comparable to transfer students.

Also, why not just complete the 60 credits?? You want to transfer don’t you? Unless you get near a 3.0 or lower, then you have a good shot at getting into the better UC schools.

*Why is UCSB a maybe while UCD is most likely? I thought UCD was way more competitive than UCSB?

*I’m not gonna lie - my main goal is to get into UCSB. I’m not too picky on the major - something political, so political science, global studies, middle east studies, etc. I have an interest in the middle east and am in the process learning languages so I figure that is a reasonable way to go. But in the end I’ll go with whatever is the most likely to get me into the school. So if you can link me to a site that shows the majors with the highest acceptance rate that would be killer.

*What source do you have for these acceptance cites? I’ll have 60 credits by Spring, but I only have about 28 total when I apply including AP units. UCSB is the only school I really want to go to, I’d honestly be miserable at UCD but and I dislike LA very much but calstate isn’t an option (no speech) and private is too expensive.

*I don’t know how to quote posts formally, this cite isn’t in BBcode.

[UCSB Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucsb.edu/quickfacts.asp)
UCSB: 3.34 average gpa accepted for transfers
51.8% admitted

[Fall 2011 UC Davis Admitted Student Profile](http://issuu.com/ucdavisadmissions/docs/studentprofile_final2011_nomarks)
UCD: 3.26 - 3.74 average gpa accepted for transfers
53.3% admitted

i based the likeliness of getting on by percent admitted and typical freshman profile, but i guess they aren’t that different.

Oh wow
[Profile of Admitted Transfer Students by Major, Fall 2010 - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr/Tr_Prof10_mjr.htm)
sorry about that. This is UCLA’s transfer rates into majors and that’s where i got the percentages from for global studies + middle east studies.

[University of California: StatFinder](http://statfinder.ucop.edu/statfinder/drawtable.aspx?track=1)
And here’s statistics for california residents who are transferring from a ca cc to UCSB.
They have acceptance information on some majors but not others.

Wow thanks for the link. I ran the table for UCSB and got this info:

Admission rate: 68.8% (average)
GPA: 3.6+ 87%.4 acceptance
GPA: 3.8+ 88.4% acceptance

However, the acceptance rate varies by major. And Middle East/Global studies are not mentioned anywhere.

Multi/Interdisciplinary Studies
Undeclared/Unknown has the highest with 80% while Computer And Information Sciences
Engineering is 36%.

What area is Middle East studies/Global Studies/Political science in? I would imagine political science is a hugely popular major but it is not listed at the site.

Would it be Area, Ethnic, Cultural, And Gender Studies - which is 66% acceptance rate?

UCLA doesn’t seem likely - 17% for global studies and 30% for political science.

Thoughts?
