Chance Me: UCSD UCSB and SDSU

Hello, the schools I’m looking at are UCSD, UCSB, and SDSU. I have the worst luck and 2nd semester of 10th grade I had surgery that got infected and missed a month of school, 1st semester of junior year I had a concussion and missed another month, and finally 2nd semester junior year I had to have another surgery and missed a month. All of these health problems have caused a massive drop in my GPA and I’m frustrated because I feel my GPA does not accurately represent me as a student or reflect my work ethic. My GPA is a 3.7(weighted), ACT is 31(with plans to take it again to raise it), I have been working every weekend for over a year, and I volunteer in my community a lot. I can’t play sports, or even take P.E., since my leg didn’t develop properly and causes a lot of pain. Also, I was a member of a few different clubs, but was never president or anything. I’ve taken two AP classes, one honors class, and one advanced class and have taken four AP tests, all of which I passed and two were for classes my school does not offer. My senior year will have 3 APs and one Honors. I plan to go in as a history major and am a California resident.

Thank you to anyone who replies!

Sorry to hear about your mishaps.

With a 3.7 /31 SDSU will be no problem. With a compelling story, any UC could happen but, it is hard to bank on. I’d encourage you to add UCR and UCSC to your application list. Your story could appeal to private schools as well, look into USD, LMU and maybe Santa Clara.

Good luck

Agree with @NCalRent’s assessment. SDSU looks like a Match while the other UC’s go either way. Include more match schools and at least one safety school to your list. Good luck to you.
