What do i need to do to improve my chances considering I'm indian, i have low ACT scores, and my extracurricular aren't exactly stellar... please help me UCSD is my dream school

Your ACT score isn’t that low, but if you get it to a 33/34, your chance would be a lot higher! You should also definitely retake Biology sat 2. You could try looking for more research opportunities. Make sure you work on your essays as they are almost as important as grades. Good luck!
Please chance back: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1672761-chance-me-for-stanford-university.html</a></p>

You need to raise your Science portion of the ACT, especially if you are applying for Bioengineering. Your UC GPA looks competitive along with your EC’s. Write great essays
UCSD: High Match/Low Reach
Get your ACT science around 30 or higher it will be a Match. Good Luck.

You don’t need to retake bio, submit your chemistry subject test and math should be ok.

@Gumbymom‌ The science portion isn’t really science. It isn’t even too relevant. I honestly would not worry TOO much about it.

I don’t know how competitive UCSD is for engineering. Can anyone shed light on this?

Bioengineering is an impacted major and so are a lot of majors in engineering. Check ucsd website .

I think you definitely need to improve your ACT/Bio E/M score. As of now with your ACT, it may be a reach, but 1-2 more points would be really helpful. Bio E/M is probably important to do well on if you plan on doing pre-med, but other than that you have a decent shot!

The San Diego area produces some really competitive students, who, not only do well academically, but also have some great EC’s. UCSD does proportionally admit more area students and so, they have their pick of students.

It doesn’t look to me as if you have a life, other than in academics. The admissions committee will notice that you didn’t step out of your comfort zone. It’s not all about studying. You’re competing with other students who not only have stellar stats but who are also athletes, musicians, artists, community changers, Eagle Scouts, etc. North County Fair often posts the FACE students. You should check out those photos and look at their bio’s; those students are your competition. And, to “add insult to injury”, you picked an impacted major.

Apply to UCSD, since this notion of “dream school” needs to run its course, but also apply to other schools. What happens if you’re not admitted? Will you go to Palomar? UCSD no longer has the TAG program. Have you even visited other colleges, or UCSD for that matter? You need to prepare yourself for the unexpected, so apply to other schools.

Just apply to UCSD and see what happens. Make sure you add other UCs that are less selective.

Also, I forgot to mention this, but I have done 9 years of Indian Vocal Classical Music…
Also did a one week internship at a lab in India along with the internship under the gynecologist…

For UCSD, the ECs didn’t mean much except when they try to award merit aid. But that was in the past, who knows what’s going to happen in the future.

My son got into UCSD with lower stats, but he wasn’t applying for Bioengineering, which might be more selective.
