Just trying to figure out whether I should worry or not. UF is my #1 choice.
@cshukys I don’t believe that anyone is a slam dunk at UF anymore, so everyone should be “worried”.
As others have said on these boards, the best indicator of your likelihood of admissions is your class rank, assuming your test scores are in range and your extracurriculars and essay are solid. Since you are in state, UF knows your high school quite well and typically takes about the same amount of students from it each year. It’s not hard and fast, but it is the best indicator. So, if you can find out where you rank in your class and see over the last few years if people around your ranking were accepted, that is the best indication…
@mypricelineemail The idea is that if you are in state, you are mostly competing against the other students in your high school. UF might normally accept the top 5% at one high school and 10% from another high school. So, looking at class rankings and GPA from different high schools can be misleading on these boards.
In your case, does UF generally accept the top 5%, 10% of your high school’s graduating class? If your school uses Naviance, you can get an idea from the scatter plot. If not, asking your guidance counselor would be helpful. My guess is that if you are in the top 5% and have the SAT/ACT, extracurriculars and a good essay, you are in pretty good shape. But every year there are people with those profiles that don’t get accepted.
