I am a mom of a graduating high school senior who will be heading off to UMass Amherst as a CS major. He has a 1540 SAT and a 3.8 unweighted GPA and a 4.6 weighted GPA. 800 and 790 on SAT II subject tests in math and bio. 5s on multiple AP exams including Calc and CS. For my son, I was fairly confident that he would get admitted based on his stats. For MomtoAndrew2018, I would caution that acceptance to their CS program is highly competitive. I suggest that you/your child keep working hard at the academics especially with respect to math and science; however, you are only young once so don’t waste your life being overly focused on finding the most prestigious programs as there are multiple pathways to success.
You are an easy admit on you stats alone… For CS I would say you need a 3.6UW minimum and 3.9 W min to just get in to the college I would say 3.3UW min and 3.6W min. SAT could be a little higher depending on you score… For you as long as your English score is not too low you will be fine but try to get your math 700+
As far as admission chances, your own guess is a good as anyone else’s here…

I got 1420 on my main SAT(ENG-630,MATH-790)
Subject tests-Math level 2-790,Physics 800 and I got rejected for cs and had to settle for my second choice major ce
My friends who were international students got into cs with much lower sats(1300 in the main, 600s in subject tests) probably because they would have to pay full tuition.One of them though had got rejected for cs but got accepted for ce too, he had much lower stats and probably nothing in ECs. He decided not to enroll, while I was content with my CE. Guess what happens… Umass’s international counselor calls him and offers him a place in cs saying there were seats vacant and they extended the enrollment deadline for him(they called him after may 1), I got no such call. This was the time I recognized that colleges are there to make money and they can hardly be called an ïnstitution"’. You’'ll see people with stats much lower than yours get into your dream college just because they won’t have to offer them scholarships(As seen in Universities like UMich, U-Wisconsin-Madison etc) It all boils down to luck I’d say.
