Chance me: UMD, Miami, Texas (Austin), American

I’m a caucasian male that lives in Maryland.

I’ve applied EA to UMD and Miami and will apply regular for Texas and American.

My gpa is 3.13 unweighted and 3.71 weighted. My freshman year grades are seriously dragging me down (for family reasons outlined in my applications). But my Junior year gpa was 3.75 unweighted and 4.5 weighted, so I’m hoping my strong upwards curve will outweigh the cumulative.

New Sat: 1470 (770 Math/700 Reading)

AP classes: APUSH (5), AP Euro (3), Human Geography (3), Psychology (4), Computer Science A (3), Computer Science Principles, Calculus, and Macroeconomics.

Key and Economics clubs (but only senior year).

My first choice is definitely Maryland, so I care about those chances the most. Thanks in advance for any help.

I need some clarifications. First of all, are you referring to Baltimore or College Park? Second, what’s your dream major? Story may change completely depending on the major you are planning for.

Have you thought of a UC? If you got into UT, it would be about the same price as a UC. UCs don’t look at freshman grades which could benefit you if you’re a full paying student.

What’s your budget? What’s your class rank?

College Park. And my Major is Computer Science.

No, I haven’t really considered a UC. Although, I imagine any UC Computer Science program would pale in comparison to UT and Maryland’s.

UT is no joke to get into as an OOS student. Especially into a program as competitive as computer science.

Do you have a budget? Be prepared to pay 50k+ at UT a year.

Definitely look into Texas A&M you have a shot at an out of state tuition waiver (you need a 4k scholarship or more). Their CS department is pretty large and well known. Some rankings would put it about UT.

Maryland is not breeze to get into. You should have some safeties likes Baltimore County in your mix of schools.

Your GPA will hold you back. I definitely recommend looking into UC schools. It may be too far for you though. If your freshman grades are as bad as you say they are, you’d have a much better chance of getting into some top-notch UCs over Maryland and UT.

Being out of state, your gpa will greatly impair your chance at UT Austin and make it a reach. What’s your class rank?
