Can I get a chance for Boston College anyone?

I wanna say high match/low reach but I’m not sure.

Can I get a chance for Boston College anyone?

I wanna say high match/low reach but I’m not sure.

bump .

Matches for all! Bro keep that GPa up and you’ll get merit and some! Good luck and sorry for late reply!

Looking at scatterplots of UMiami, you’re in the green for admissions. Like movieman706 said, for large amounts of aid you’ll need to raise your test scores, but you’re almost definitely going to be admitted.

You have a mediocr chance for UMiami with your weighted gpa and a high chance for Boston college

You think I have a better chance for BC? I’m under the impression that UM is easier to get into.

I’m flying into Miami today to see if I like the school. Hopefully all goes well.

U Miami is great!!! (Aside from $60k/yr) At the airport ready to fly home after visiting. #2 school for sure.

Give me more UM feedback guys and gals :D

Only thing that concerns me is GPA. I have 2 Cs on my transcript but the rest all As and Bs. Average GPA from 2013 was a 4.20. My ECs set me apart from the cookie-cutter students and my SAT is right up there.

Leave your links, I have an hour to kill at the airport.

You look great for Miami. Scores are there. GPA is there.

Good work!

And on the topic of UVA… it might be a bit of a reach NOT because of your credentials (they look great!) but because you’re out of state. I’ve heard that both W&M and UVA accept most of their out of state students during early decision/action. That could be an option for you if it is your number 1. I’m pretty sure UVA’s early action is NOT restrictive.

My best advice to you (advice I got from my father who is a dean at a college) is to go to the best school you are accepted to. The school you go to for undergrad opens doors.

I have UVA at #3. I visited there and they said by law, they have to accept 2/3rd in state, so that’s why it’s so competitive out of state. I’m not that big a fan of the huge and old campus, but like you said, the prestige of UVA is there; I have to consider the opportunities it would give me if accepted.

Miami has a medical scholars program which I qualify for (assuming 3.7 gpa freshman yr there), that would give me automatic acceptance to their medical school. I also LOVE the campus. I think that would be a great opportunity for me because I want to study business and economics, so I won’t have to worry about taking too many science classes and obsessing over medical school admissions…all while maintaining a great gpa and lifting weights 5 days a week.

Georgetown is my #1 but it will be very hard to get into if my dad can’t pull some strings.

Miami: safety/match
UVA: reach
Georgetown: reach
Maryland: safety
*I’m very familiar with UMCP and UMBC. There’s no way you cannot get in. Based on your sports experience, they may even offer you a full ride. I tutor college students and have seen students with scores much lower than yours be accepted and offered generous scholarships.

I would focus on getting those scores up. Remember that Georgetown requires 3 SAT II Subject Tests. Aim for 750+ so you are qualified even if your dad does manage to pull strings.

Best of luck!

I wish I found this site a few years ago, definitely would have got it together 9th and 10th grade. I didn’t know how hard good colleges were to get into and I definitely wouldn’t have gotten 2 C’s and would have been more involved.

you are about the 60-65% for SAT for UMiami, in combination with you GPA and EC, i would say u have a solid match to get in. Do u have any leadership roles in your EC?
with regards to merit aid, 1) do u have legacy there?
your grades are not outstanding and SAt is not above 80-85% which would lead me to believe u would not receive merit aid UNLESS,
you get in to a more prestigious university (e.g. Ivy League) and ‘threaten’ UMiami that u will go to that other school unless they offer u merit aid.
Ive seen this work before with friends of my older brothers, and it worked!

chance back as u said!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1527194-brandeis-chance-will-apply-ed-chance-back.html

For leadership I have the youth lacrosse coach position. I coached 3 sessions each weekend for kids ages 5-13 of all skill levels, totaling about 150 kids along with a couple other guys. I was also co-captain of the JV lacrosse team sophomore year. I could likely write about this in my essay, I think it helps show a “passion.”

No legacy and I doubt I’ll get into ivies. I don’t need a full scholarship or anything but even $5,000-$10,000 would save a lot over 4 years.

Don’t even have to go into full depth about it, you are going to get into this school. The merit aid is the thing in question, if anything try a knack at the SAT again or even better try the ACT, you will be amazed at how well you can be at it than the SAT. I think you will gain a substantial amount of aid and at this point, you’ll probably receive from a quarter to a half covered in your tuition and fees.

Sweet I hope I do. My family does make a lot, but I have a sister 1 grade below me, so I don’t want my parents to have to pay $120k /yr so we can both go to good schools.

I am going to take the SAT and ACT as many times as I can this fall. Thanks for the reassurance.

woah sweet income :D

you’ll definitely get in. merit aid will be good but i’m not expecting a full ride. you’ve got good academics if your family is willing to put down some money then shoot higher (if you want of course)

thanks for chancing me

My dad is willing to put down money for anywhere I want to go. I say dad because my mom is a teacher haha. We both want me to go to GTown, but it’s so hard to get in, didn’t realize this until I got my SAT scores back and started researching. I hope to get above a 2100 and a 32-33 ACT so I can get into GTown and maybe even get lucky at a school like Duke or JHU, may even get a ton of merit aid at Miami if I do, too.

I want to become a surgeon and medical school (or dental school if I want to pursue maxillofacial surgery) is expensive as hell, so I would like to get some aid because my dad wants to help me pay for that too.

That being said, I want to go to a school I’ll enjoy being at. I tend to not like the big state colleges. Miami has small classes, great weather, a beautiful campus, a brand new student center and gym, a top pre-med program, a good football team, tons of spirit…the list goes on.

Thanks for the chance on my thread. I would say you are definitely in the upper part of the applicant pool and will have no problem getting in. It doesn’t look like you need merit aid and I don’t know much about the aid process at umiami but if I was an admission officer I would want you at my university and would be generous about itt

That is some of the worst advice I’ve see on this board.

You are a match for Miami and while there might be some merit aid it’s hard to say how much without knowing your financial situation.

As for USC,

http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/private/1213/USCFreshmanProfile2012.pdf

currently it’s a reach. With a 3.6/1990 you are below the averages (your SAT is below the 25th%-tile), unless you want to be very disappointed next Spring I suggest being painfully realistic about your chances… Given that SC now has a sub 20% admit rate you need to consider it as a reach. Getting your SATs up to 2100 will help you quite a bit.
