How are your SAT section scores? 1410 is a bit low for CoE from OOS.

Math - 770 English - 640

Your Math score is right around the average of 2016 CoE freshmen (after conversion) while your English score is belo the 25th percentile. Your GPA is also at the admission average. The overall CoE admission rate was ~24% last year. Your chance from OOS would be below 20%, so it is a reach for you.

I really appreciate that thank you so much. Do you think it would be a good idea for me to apply for early action or should I try to retake my sat and apply for the regular decision?

You can apply EA while preparing for SAT retake as soon as possible. You will be deferred to RD if not admitted EA and your new score will considered. The only difference is you would have less time for revising your essays.

Thank you so much for all the information. I really appreciate it.

@billcsho I have managed to get my sat to a 1450 - Math 760 English 690, and I am trying to major in cs. As an oos do you think I should apply to LSA or take my chances with COE? Also what is your opinion on the new coe stats, I believe umich recently updated them and median sat now is 1410 while act is 33, the correlation between sat and act does not seem right to me?

Don’t rely on the SAT stat from 2016 as there was not sufficient sample size with the new score format. I doubt the median to be 1410 if it is 33 for ACT. The 2017 median SAT for UMich overall was around 1440. I would expect it to be around. 1410 looks like the CR+M medium in the old score scale.

@RACOON1012 do LSA, you’ll have a way better shot with it than CoE

Some text missing on my response above.
…I would expect it to be around 1480 or higher for CoE in the new SAT scale.

Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!! @billcsho, you are the best.

@SchoolAdventurer thank you as well, I am sorry I did not see your reply.

Also @SchoolAdventurer do you think my sat is competitive for LSA CS or will it be lower than the average?

Your current SAT is right around the admission average of LSA.

Thank you againnnnn!!!

I got 1370 SAT but I had a ton of honors and a 4.6 weighted GPA and I got into the school of engineering EA which I attribute to my writing portion of my application. I am also out of state.

Congratulations man!!! Gives me a little hope.

@dppp1299 did you ask for financial aid???

@RACOON1012
I just got in college of engineering through regular decision from OOS with 1510 (710 ER + 800 M) SAT. UMichigan’s COE is just as selective as Berkeley’s EECS or Cornell. I’m a California resident but got rejected from Berkeley EECS. So I’m pretty happy that I got into UMichigan’s engineering.
