Chance Me UNC-CH In-State?

Hello,

After being rejected by an out of state university, I am considering applying RD to UNC-CH. I am from North Carolina, so will be applying In-State. I am not sure if my stats will make it worth applying, however. I really would like to attend UNC, but I guess I just want to see if it would be worth a shot. I will post my stats below. If you need any other info just let me know. Thanks for any help you can provide!

GPA: 4.34 W/3.8 UW
ACT: 30 Composite
SAT: Didn’t Take
AP Exams: APUSH; 5
Mostly Honors and some AP, some standard electives etc.

EC’s
President of my HS’ chapter of SkillsUSA, held an officer position every year I have been a member.
NJROTC, Chain of Command/Officer for 2 consecutive years
Beta Club
Student Council
Astronomy
Debate

I should also add I have some various awards and stuff for my ECs, am a member of the NTHS, and am a certified Pharmacy tech. I’m also first gen. Not sure which of that matters. Thanks for any help!

@NonNocere99 While UNC is quite competitive, you luck out a bit by being in-state. North Carolina law states that about 80-85% of all students at UNC must come from in-state for the freshman class so that definitely should help you. Your stats are average/entering above-average for UNC, so I think your app will get a good look from the school. All in all, I think you are a medium/high match. The only thing that kind of tips me off is your GPA. Seeing as how you only took one AP course, that might raise a flag regarding the rigor of courses you have taken in school, assuming your school offers more APs you could have taken (correct me if I’m wrong). What did you make on those AP exams? Also, I’m just curious, what was the OOS school you were rejected from? And are you a URM?

Thanks for your response! My school offers a few AP courses, not a whole lot but I could have taken more. I’ll be taking AP stats this semester as well. My APUSH exam score was 5. I’ve been taking all honors other than the electives which were of course standard level in addition to two college courses. The school that rejected me was Emory. I am not a URM. Thanks so much for your help!

@NonNocere99 Your stats are average for admission to UNC. As am in-state applicant though, you still have a good chance. Your writing samples and recommendations have to be stellar if you want to get in.
