Chance me University of Michigan

Well this is my dream school and I am willing to do anything i possibly can to get in.

General Information:
In my life I had to cope with many difficulties including being severly sick due to Asthma. As well as moving from the middle east to America. My Asthma caused me to miss many school days during 9th and 10th grade, which caused me to struggle in school. I eventually lost over 30KG which helped cure my asthma but then... During my Junior year i moved from the middle east to Massachussets. The culture shock was terrible and I struggled a bit in school because of it. I am a Pakistani and I have spent my whole life in the middle east. I recently moved to the States in order to get a better education. These are some of my stats:

G.P.A: 3.4 (keep in mind that i go to one of the best schools in the country)
SAT: 2100
EC: Jv Basketball, Volleyball, Track, Softball - Varsity Wrestling, Track - Model United Nations (2 years), Cricket Club, MSA Club, Student Council - Class President
Leadership: Cricket Team Captain, Student Council- Class President, Model United Nations- Main Submitter in most conferences, Muslim Students Assocation President, Some other awards i recieved also i have some community service.

I'm a rising senior and I'm planning on applying early. Is there anything I should do to increase my chances at getting in to Umich?

You can try the ACT.
You should know that you GPA is low… I don’t really know what else to tell you.
Your chances are okay. The GPA is not promising though.

would you happen to know your class rank? that could provide members here context for your GPA.

also, is that GPA weighted or unweighted?

It’s an unweighted GPA, I am looking for ways to improve my chances. I have a month off in which i can do anything that can help me. Also I’m going to try to get a 4.0 gpa during my senior year.

Give us a class rank first.

Top 20% probably

From what I’ve heard, Michigan doesn’t place a whole lot of priority on test scores, to quote a reply from a thread I posted: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-michigan-ann-arbor/1154756-would-these-sat-scores-put-me-good-range-oos-applicant.html

"Michigan does not weigh the SAT heavily. The University actually deemphasizes the SAT/ACT and weigh classroom perfermance far heavier than test scores. As such, GPA and school curriculum are more likely to determine your chances. If you have a 4.0 GPA and took a bunch of AP courses, your SAT will be sufficient to make Michigan a match school for you. On the other hand, if you have a 3.5 GPA and did not take difficult courses, Michigan will be a reach, even if you ace the SAT/ACT.

And yes, Michigan looks more closely at the CR and M sections of the SAT. The W section is not at all important, which bodes well for you."

Therefore, I think a 2100 should be fine.

In regards to the GPA, you said that you attended one of the best schools in the country in MA. If this is an elite private school like Exeter or Andover, than a 3.4 is actually great (assuming you’re taking a rigorous course load). Remember that colleges will only judge your GPA in the context of your school.

Bump bump bump
