I am a rising senior
Throughout high school, I have taken Honors Physics, Honors Algebra 1, Honors Algebra 2, Honors Chemistry, Honors English (2x), and AP English Language and Comp.
I have an 88% as my GPA (our grade scale is weird at my school so I don’t know what that would be on a 4.0 scale)
I have taken the ACT once without studying in February and I am going to take it with prep again in June.
I got a 25 in February. I’m hoping to get at least a 27
I have been on the Varsity Golf and Varsity Tennis team since freshman year.
My freshman and sophomore year, I was Vice President of my class. Junior year I was an ambassador and parliamentarian of service club.
I am Vice President of Student Council and Vice President of Service Club for my senior year.
I am a member of theater guild and am in the musicals
I taught myself to play guitar Freshman year and I sing and song-write
I am hoping to study music and political science in college
I have won Golf Player of the Year my sophomore year and junior year, thus far. I have also won the Will to Win award for tennis.
I was selected to go to Girls State (a selective leadership program)
Please let me know what you think I should do to improve and my chances of getting into UTK
Thanks!
In-state or out-of-state?
in state
The best thing you can do at this point is to get your standardized test scores up, although it wouldn’t hurt for you to raise your GPA a bit also. By way of comparison, our in-state high school has an average of 28 ACT and 3.75 weighted GPA for admitted students at UTK.
Taking a preparatory class for the ACT should be helpful (especially if you can take practice exams as part of the test prep). I would also try to meet with your guidance counselor early in the Fall Semester (and you might have to really make an effort to do so), and discuss admissions strategies for UTK.
Good luck!
