I’m a US highschool student btw
Major- poli sci
Admission avg (based on jnr and snr year- UW is 83% and weighted is 91%
About 7 or 8 ap courses (passed the exam for 4, were all social sciences save for the one english course so does that help with showing a connection with my major?)
ACT - 27, 28 superscore
EC- one year of membership in my school districts student council
General library volunteering
One semester of band.
Also im a legacy student, seeing how my dad graduated from st george.
Race- Black
I plan to apply to St george but is it possible to put utm as a back up so I could always transfer after 1st year? Do you automatically get accepted into the other schools if you dont make it into St George?
It was the main reason why I didnt have much luck spring of 2018 with all my US apps (I graduated two months ago but im takinga gap year and will enroll 2019 fall rather than 2018 fall) but I know canadian schools are more numbers based so fingers crossed
For poli sci, U of T goes purely on numbers - GPA and (in your case) ACT scores. Legacy doesn’t count. URM doesn’t count. EC’s don’t matter. Your numbers are almost OK for St. George, but you’re close to the cutoff. You can apply to UTM in addition to UTSG and you should get into UTM. I’ve heard of people getting alternate offers for a different campus if they weren’t admitted to UTSG, but if you would be happy with an alternate campus, you should apply to both campuses rather than hoping they’ll give you an alternate offer.
Apply as soon as the applications are available (usually Octoberish) and you may get an early response.
Yes, the cutoff will be the same for all the social sciences and humanities programs. You wouldn’t apply to international relations or poli sci until the end of your first year.
