USC and Vanderbilt are obviously my reach schools, but I figured it wouldn’t hurt to apply to those schools since they meet 100% of financial need

I realize my stats are nowhere near the level of outstanding of some other posters on here applying to the same schools but who knows maybe my essays will really do it for me…

Your only strong chance is Michigan State. Not sure why someone from Michigan would consider going to Ohio State. I hate to break it to you, but you’re not getting into Vanderbilt, Michigan, or USC with your stats. Even an INCREDIBLE essay wouldn’t do much for those schools. Good luck though.

Give it a try

I would say Mich is a possibility.

Never say never! @zippytatiana don’t think that a lack of stats is a reason to be denied at schools. First off, if you get that 32 that will help a ton, but even if you don’t if you have strong essays with a passionate voice, there’s no telling where you might end up. Don’t expect to be accepted to USC and Vandy (very few should expect do be accepted there), but don’t cross them off your list just because you don’t think you can get in (a 0% chance is worse than whatever chance you have when you apply). Michigan state is definitely a possibility, and the rest are far from impossible.

Just thought I would say I just got accepted into MSU today!!

Michigan seems like a Low-Mid Match, but USC and Vandy are reaches. You never know though! No hurt in applying, especially if you can come up with that 32! That is a HUGE difference!

@zippytatiana I would apply to USC for sure if you want to go there. You are not completely out of contention (although bumping up that ACT score even by 1 point would help.) Be aware you should apply before Dec 1 (or whatever the merit aid cutoff date is this year) even if you don’t think you’ll get merit aid, it shows you are serious. Run the price calculator though. I think “full need” at SC includes loans and work study. And the loan amount might be more than you are expecting. I would say Mich is also a possibility, esp if you notch up your ACT scores.

I don’t know the others well enough.
