Cornell - reach
UNC - low reach
Georgetown - reach
Wake Forest - match
UCLA - high match
UVA - match
NYU - match

Will you be able to afford UVA and UCLA as an out of state student?

Yes and they are less expensive than the private schools I listed too

bump

Your numbers definitely look solid and your ECs clearly show that you want to be involved in finance or own a business one day. I think you’ll definitely have a shot at your reach schools, for sure.

Wharton - Reach (it’s a reach for everyone)
UNC - Low Reach
Cornell - Reach
Georgetown - Reach
UVA - Low Reach (it’s tough to get in if you’re OOS)
NYU - Low Reach/High Match
UCLA - High Match
Wake Forest - Match

Hi rbow10 - Thanks for the chance!

Since you’re legacy to Wharton, I would say you are definitely in the running for Penn. That being said, I would raise that ACT score a little (34+) to give yourself a even better shot. Your ECs are okay but I think your landscaping business will definitely be a strong point to talk about if you articulate it well in your essays.

Cornell, Penn, and UNC will be reaches for sure, but the others are definitely matches for you, including UCLA.

Also, I would advise that even though your school doesn’t offer many awards, try using your business and business skills to enter competitions in your area and get recognition. That will be a great tie-up to your application if you do.

Good luck!

UPenn ED for 2014 was 25.2% so if you add your legacy to that you look good for UPenn.
UCLA you have a big advantage being OOS; 2014 admit rate for OOS was 26.2%
At the public schools you may want to leave off parent income if it is high; best to leave that blank for the public schools and just remove it from consideration.

Thanks for the input!

make sure you emphasize not only the fact that you want to study finance, but that you want to study it at Wharton. that’s part of what’s really important to penn’s admissions committee. they want to know not only why you want to study your choice, but why Penn is the right school/program/whatever for you! tie that in to your landscaping business, and you should be fine.

@empanada‌ I’ve actually never thought about that but that’s great advice! So basically say why I need to be at Wharton as opposed to any other school

@rbow10 yup! when i talked to an admissions counselor, she said it was what she mainly looked at for an essay. WHY PENN.
