Chance Me- Upenn Wharton ED 2025

Hey, new member here, be as bruttally honest as possible on my chances please.
Apart from Wharton ED (finance major), I’m applying to BC, IU Kelley, Carnegie Mellon, Cornell SC Johnson, Princeton, Wash U Olin, Duke. My only safety is Kelley, I’m comfortable with rejection.

Demographics:
URM(Hispanic), 1st generation immigrant, middle-high income, male, live in Indiana

School:
most competitive school in the state, private, upper school population of around 400, regularly send 10-15 to Ivy every year, 10-13 to Ivy equivalents. Small grade, 74 students.

Testing/GPA:
ACT 34, Superscore 34
GPA 3.9, WGPA 4.21
CEFR (European Language academy thing) B2 French accreditation (max is C1)
School doesn’t class rank

GPA Disclaimer I was a wild kid freshman year so i messed up hard, but ever since second semester sophomore year, I have been straight A’s, not a single A-

Classes:
All classes at my school are considered “honors” relative to their equivalents in my state, but here are my AP’s:

AP Spanish (9th): 5
AP French (10th): 4
French Seminar/ aka college level stuff after AP (11th)
Spanish Seminar/ college level stuff after AP (12th, did it for fun more than anything)
APUSH (11th): 5
AP Lang (11th): 5
AP Micro (11th): 4 (Ik, it sucks but it was the Covid test so it screwed me up a bit)
AP Macro (11th): 4
AP World History (12th)
AP Psychology (12th)
AP Calc AB (12th) (my school organizes math very weirdly, will not doing BC hurt me a lot?)
AP Stats (12th)
AP Lit (12th)

Awards:
Honestly the typical stuff, not my proudest category

College Board Hispanic Recognition Program Award
Honor Roll all 4 Years
AP Scholar with distinction
Cum Laude Commendation all 4 years
Varsity Letter (2 years)

EC’s (11th)
Wharton Business Program (global youth scholars)Future of the Business world

Foreign Immersion Program in Toulouse, France (10th)
-1 month, lived with foreign family and attended 6 hour classes daily

Kumon Math Student (9th-12th)

  • for 6 darn years now, just finished the program

  • Dayton, Chicago, and Georgetown national/international meets

  • for a month helped at a retirement home for ex-railroad workers, helped with memory therapy and mobility exercises; socialized and took walks with the clients as well (not payed)

Teaching Assistant at my school for Spanish III (12th)

  • pretty self explanatory, still significant and I think could be an edge since its in the very school I attend

Portfolio management (11-12th)

  • started with 3,000$, currently at 77,526$ profit, most of it has been put in a savings account for college

I’m not an expert but you seem like a good candidate. Being a URM will definitely make up for some areas that might be below average for Wharton. As for your grades, I wouldn’t worry too much about freshman year. You have a good progression and are ending strong. EDing will also help. Good luck!!!

It is really impossible to chance for Wharton. You appear to be a competitive applicant with academics and ECs that should get you a serious look. The rest will depend on things we can’t see such as your essays, LORs, etc.

Apply to Wharton and give it your all. But IMO any elite college (with acceptance rates often in the single digits) should be considered a reach for an unhooked applicant.

If Kelley is your only safety I’d recommend that you apply as early as possible (11/1) so you have your answer by December. As long as Kelley is affordable, you would be happy to attend, and you (hopefully) get an acceptance by December then it is fine as your only safety school.

Thank you my man.

happy1, I appreciate the input, I’ve applied already at the start of october, don’t really have much to lose there. As for hooks, just wondering, is Hispanic not one of them? I know income and non-legacy don’t help, but just checkin’. Yeah, none of these schools are a sure shot for sure. Thanks

Any other thoughts? Any feedback?

Hi @Adedios10, not worth looking into too much further as you have already applied. You have a strong application profile and if what you say about sending nearly a third of your class to Ivies and Ivy equivalents is true, I would say you definitely have a good shot (but of course, are playing with probabilities).

Yes, URM is a hook, but it is not as much of a strong hook as sports/close connections to the school can be.

I highly recommend you apply to one more safety if you are not accepted into Wharton early. I really hope you do make it into one of those schools you listed, but just putting one extra school can put a lot less stress on you through the process and potentially help you financially.

I think that you and I have similar chances at Wharton (I also applied ED). I have slightly better grades and scores than you (plus I’m a legacy), but you’re URM and have slightly better activities. Hopefully we both get in

Haha, I love the competitiveness, I hope so too man.
