Chance me- UPenn Wharton ED, Duke; I'LL CHANCE BACK

GPA: 4.28 (weighted), 3.8 (unweighted, I know this is a bit low, I had some B's freshman year, but i'm improved to all A's.)
school doesn't rank for college apps, but they said I'm in top 9%
SAT: 2320: 800 writing, 770 cr, 750 math
SAT II: Math 790 (should I retake? I know penn loves 800s, taking bio, chem & french in october. (prob 750ish in bio and chem, hopefully in the 700s for french)

course load: most rigorous offered at school, my counselor said so herself, Full IB Diploma Classes
no predicted scores yet, but so far i had straight A's in IB all of junior year.

APs: Euro (3), Human Geo (4). only 2 since i'm doing IB diploma now.

EC'S
-president of model united nations club- won multiple awards (best delegate, research, etc)
-president of desi club (indian club)
-founder/ president of DECA/FBLA chapter at school
-vp of french honor society
- historian of Amnesty International Club
-in national honor society for this year and next
-200 + hours at local hospital

-piano for 8 years
-karnataka cultural association (indian cultural group) youth committee- won 3rd place in youth award competition

-prob. the biggest thing: cofounded (can't be CEO as a minor, so i'm a member on the board of directors (director of youth involvement) right now) a nonprofit which donates quilts to cancer patients (i think this may be what i focus on in essays as well) lots of community service hrs. And this means a lot to me since one of my parents is recovering from cancer.

This summer:
-Research at a UCLA bioengineering lab: gonna talk about that in any supplement that asks for research
-Social Media Marketing intern at a local nonprofit that helps cancer patients: should be a really good rec from them, they love me

You have a decent GPA, great SAT scores, and Awesome Extra-Curricular Activities. Duke, MIT, Stanford, UChicago, Northwestern, and all Ivy’s are reaches(As they are for everyone). Rice, Vandy, Emory, UCLA, UVA, NYU and Cal are all matches. The rest can possibly be considered for Safety’s. Glad to help a fellow Indian out! :)

Thanks!
10char

Your chances are very, very good…You have excellent scores and some brilliant EC’s
Like already mentioned… Ivies and unis like MIT Stanford and UChicago are very competitive, but still your chances are better than most people (read me…lol) Vandy Emory Rice UCLA NYU UVA and even Northwestern can be considered matches for you, and you sound like someone who is very likely to get an admit at these places.

One thing though, if you are willing to chance people back…shouldn’t you be able to evaluate your own chances?

Anyway, chance me back…
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1517928-chances-cornell-princeton-jhu.html</a></p>

Ivy = reach
Purdue = low match

Sorry im on a phone atm so cant do much researching ^^;

Everything looks great! You’re ECs show that you have a will to fight cancer (like me!)and I think that will definitely help out. Also, you could write your essay on how you want to raise money to fight cancer and that your parent has it, that would be really touching. Gosh I’m just now realizing how many Indians are on here lol. Brown power!

You have a good chance with some of those ivies, you’re a great candidate!

You’re really active…lemme guess. CAS? Somehow I think if it is not for CAS I wouldn’t have any ECs. Great academics. Could you tell me your IB combos?

@skyrior

Yep! There’s a love hate relationship with CAS

Hl bio
Hl history of the America’s
Sl chem
Sl math (switching to hl)
Sl french b
Hl English a

I’m switching a few classes for senior year, like math and maybe econ instead of history

Good gpa, great sat scores, and some brilliant ECs. I’d say you have a chance for some of those ivy’s but like others said…its very competitive so definitely a reach! Emory, NYU, and those other non-ivy schools- high match!

I wouldn’t waste time and worry about that 790 on ur math cus it still looks amazing! :)

You did an excellent job!
Good 4 you!

all Ivy Leagues: Reach to High Reach except Cornell (Low reach)
duke: Reach
stanford: High Reach
MIT: High Reach
Rice: Solid chances
Northwestern: Solid chances
Vandy: Good chances
UChicago: Reach
UVA: In
Emory: Very good chances
NYU: In
Tulane: In
UIUC: In
Georgia tech: In
purdue: In
UCLA, UCB: In

For Ivy League: You never know
duke: Reach
stanford: You never know
MIT: High Reach
Rice: high match
Northwestern: high match
Vandy: match
UChicago: low reach
UVA:Guaranteed
Emory: low match
Pretty much guaranteed at all the rest, you are so good that you might even get some scholarships from UIUC b/c they rarely ever give scholarships.

Chance me back please!
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1520129-chance-northwestern-wash-u-etc-i-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

duke - Reach
stanford - Reach (but good chances)
MIT - Reach
Rice - Low Reach
Northwestern - Reach
Vandy - Reach
UChicago - Reach
UVA - Reach (UVA is very hard for out-of-statee students)
Emory - Low Reach
NYU - Low Match/Safety
UIUC - Low Match/Safety
Georgia tech - Safety
purdue - Safety
UCLA, UCB - Match, Low Reach

Your Grades are a little bit unimpressive, but won’t kill you. Your SATs are great. Your extracurriculars, and the essays they will yield, are excellent.

Don’t apply to all of the schools you listed. Do some research first. After you’ve removed schools that you wouldn’t prefer or that are not amazing in your particular field of interest, start removing schools that would be particularly difficult to get into. Berkeley is a bit tough for Californians, while Stanford is a bit easy on in-state residents. UVA is extremely tough for out-of-state students, and, honestly I don’t think it’s worth applying to in your case.

Look at your school’s past data from Naviance scattergrams, if available. While many of these schools are “reaches for everyone” in general, when you factor in your geography and location, much of this changes. For example, my school in particular (in NJ) has a very high admission rate to colleges like Emory, Rice, Duke, and Vanderbilt (these southern schools do not receive a ton of northeast applicants and are thus less competitive.) Comparatively, we get very few people into HYS, and even UPenn, because all of these schools receive numerous NJ applicants; the pool is more competitive.

Chance back?: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1508837-chance-princeton-upenn-jerome-fisher-ivies-etc.html</a></p>

All of the Ivies are reaches because they’re the Ivies. I think anything on your list UVA or below is a safety because you have great test scores, but i don’t really know how the mid-reach schools will fare out. It’s a crapshoot, if you ask me, but bet on at least UVA.

Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1517788-chance-johns-hopkins-ed-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

Harvard/Yale/Princeton/MIT/Caltech/Stanford - Reach
Brown/Columbia/Penn/Dartmouth - Low reaches
Cornell - High match/Low reach
Duke - Low reach
Rice - Match
Northwestern - Match
Vanderbilt - High match
UChicago - Reach
UVA - Match
Emory - Match
NYU - Low match
Tulane - High safety
UIUC - High safety
Georgia tech - Low match
purdue - High safety
UCLA, UCB - Match

Bump 10char

I think you have solid chances at Duke! Reach for UPenn thiugh!

Would you mind telling me your predicted grades, if you have any?

A 40/42 is good enough. You must get 7/7 for bio hl, and 7/7 for chem hl. Math HL is not necessary, but it shows that you are smart. aim for at least 6/7 for math hl.
you must get 7/7 for math sl.
you should get at least 6/7 for others.

Academic: near perfect, slight room for improvement.

SAT perfect. good enough. (If you do have the time, try 800 for math)
SAT II: improve if you have the time. a 790 means 42~43/50 correct, not 48/50…so yeah. shouldn’t take much time. just learn how to use your gdc. (to be honest I didn’t even know the formulas for ellipses, but I just used my gdc to calculate)
Aim for all 800s.

IB workload:
Good to see you’re switching to HL Math. It will be a huge huge leap though… Other than that nice workload. HL Bio is one of the hardest sciences for IB.

ECs are good, and rather unique.

Provided that you write an excellent essay, I’m sure you would stand a good chance for all.

all Ivy Leagues - between high match (cornell med) to reach
duke: Reach
stanford: Reach
MIT: Reach
Rice: Low Reach
Northwestern: Low Reach
Vandy: Match
UChicago: Reach
UVA: Safety
Emory: Match
NYU: Safety
Tulane: Safety
UIUC: Safety
Georgia tech: Safety
purdue: Safety
UCLA, UCB: Safety

Don’t apply to too many universities. Although they say “they don’t know who you’re applying to”, they do. If you’re gonna apply to all the prestigious universities, it may look bad on you. Select 3 or 4 from Ivy League and that’s it. Also there’s the economic concern on applying to too many, but your income level should fare well…

Since your income level is pretty high, they expect you to do more. Therefore, although your ECs look impressive, it must be said that the admissions officer would think that that’s kind of expected for people like you. Your ECs also correlate with what kind of person you are, which matters a lot, and builds coherence in your application. That’s perfect.

I’m not sure how income level will hurt your chances, but they do, because of a psychological reason on the part of the admissions officers. Just report as “I prefer not to tell” if possible.

Unfortunately it’s the first year IB has been offered at my school and they haven’t figured out the whole predicted scores yet.
Chem I’m sure 6-7, but I’m in sl! They didn’t have hl.
Bio I’m sure 6-7

Yeah for math I went back and changed my answer for a question that I know I could’ve gotten right. I don’t think I’ll take it again since upenn asks for all score reports

Also I was hoping to apply to some schools EA ( and Penn ED) and hopefully if I get into some of those I can shorten my list (well if I get In ED I have no list)

Finances are a bit weird- we were good until my mom got cancer and eventually lost her job for a year. So there’s been some losses on our part, and that’ll show in FAFSA.

Thanks so much for the advice! Honestly the best i’ve gotten
