What is your class rank or decile? Your ECs are okay but your SAT scores and GPA makes all these schools reaches. Do you have any matches/safeties, because this list is simply too top-heavy.

You mean 36/42 for your IB predicted grades. That’s a great score, however I think a competitive score for an Ivy is a 40+ IB predicted (including bonus point of EE/TOK)

Your ECs are good, and you have a good accumulative average of 90+, which is high in Canadian grading standard.

But most of your schools are naturally reaches, and since your Canada (I’m Canadian too), you’d have to stand out. Beast the essays and make sure you get good recs.

If not, try McGill, UT, Western, Queen’s or UBC in Canada, those are perfect safeties for you.

I think you have a pretty good shot. Your Biology SAT II score might be a tad low, but I doubt it’ll matter. Your ECs are interesting, not average. I think that’ll help a lot.

Make sure you are applying to more schools within your range because these schools may be a tad out of range. Academically speaking, you’re not top-notch (SAT scores though not “bad” could be better especially b/c you are Asian). An A- average (and consequently lower class rank) does not comfortably surpass the minimum academics for such schools, especially when you are applying as an International from Canada (where there are probably more competitive applicants). In terms of school involvement, you don’t show that much leadership or major commitments. And though you have high achievement in piano, it won’t distinguish you too much (piano is stereotypically asian). I know I’m being harsh, but all of the schools, particularly Yale, Princeton, and U Penn, look to be reaches. The others not much better. It might not be what you want to hear, but it’s my honest assessment. Are you set on going to school in the U.S.? Because there are a ton of other great schools you could look at here if your top choices don’t work out.

If you really want to consider some US schools, you need to aim lower than the ivies. There are so many great schools where a 2100, unhooked candidate candidate stands a great chance, but they are not ivies or Stanford.

I don’t think your chances are that bad, but your main weakness as lots of other posters have indicated is that your application doesn’t really stand out much from the other thousands of applicants with similar test scores/ECs

Hey!
I do the IB diploma too, and although 38 is a great score, I think 40+ is competitive for the ivies.

SAT score wise, I think you’re fine (although being Asian doesn’t work in your favour :p)

Apart from Cornell (low reach IMO), I think most of them are reaches. Perhaps you should think about adding more ‘mid/target’ schools to your list.

Oh, and your ECs are pretty decent, but nothing that’s really a ‘hook’ :O
