I recently applied to USC for the merit scholarship deadline and I am so stressed because USC has been my dream school for years and idk what my chances are

stats: GPA-3.79 W (my school doesn’t do unweighted) SAT-applying test optional

demographics: white female from massachusetts (public high school but highly ranked with good resources) not first gen or legacy

major: Communications (Annenberg)

common app: about a realization about my love for impacting others during dress rehearsal of a choreography project (I choreographed a piece that I taught to a group of dancers and that was then performed)

supplementals: one about coffee and how it brought me closer to my parents and the other about why I liked USC which included specific details about the professors, programs, and traditions as well as why I chose the major and how I plan to use it in the future

activities: Allergy and Food Intolerance Book (Satisfying Substitutes) published through Amazon KDP

Emerson Dance Company at Ballet Arts Center (4 years)
Teacher’s Assistant for younger levels at Ballet Arts Center (4 years)

Don’t stress about it because you really can’t control their decisions and you will suffer needless stress. It’s all about “FIT”. They will decide who they need and how to build their incoming class. This is not in your control.

USC is very competitive. It is also very, very expensive. They have trends in liking and funding-National Merit winners and scholars, Eagle Scouts, recruited athletes, and band musicians. (My son got in as a National Merit winner, but he chose to go elsewhere, where the funding was better). GPA is very, very important.

I don’t know their history for performance artists. My sister is Trojan alumni and interviews some candidates. GPA and ranking are very important.

Make sure you have safeties and other schools that you can afford and will be good options for you.

Stay positive and focus on something else. Read a novel, make candles, create a blog, etc.
