Chance me !
New PSAT: 1230 (92nd percentile)
I just took the new SAT and the results haven’t come back yet
GPAs: (One of my weaknesses)
UW GPA: 3.6
W GPA: 3.8
UC GPA: 3.78
Some of my courseload through senior year:
History/Social Sciences: World Geography, AP World, AP US History, AP Gov, AP Econ
Math: Through Precal (Honors Geometry, no other Honors/AP)
English: English 9 Honors, Regular 10th grade, AP Lang and Comp, AP Lit
Foreign Language: 4 years, including AP Spanish Lang.
Science: Honors Biology, Regular Chemistry and Physics
I am interested in a few social science majors.
ECs (There are just a few, it is another of my weaknesses)
Treasurer of a group at school
Freshman mentor
Volunteering (Again a weakness)
I volunteered 80+ hours at my old elementary school
I have a few schools in mind. I know some might be unrealistic, but hey, why not try?
I think I have them sorted pretty well. The schools I’m interested in:
Reach:
USC
UC San Diego
Fit-Reach:
UC Santa Barbara
UC Irvine
Fit:
UC Santa Cruz
San Diego State
CSU, Long Beach
Safety:
CSU Fullerton
San Jose State
For the CSU’s, calculate your eligibility index (CSU GPA x 800) + (SAT Math+CR)
I think you have a good list with safeties/matches and reaches. Repost with your EI and will chance you.
Where you live can also affect your chances for CSUs. https://secure.csumentor.edu/planning/high_school/impacted_admission.asp has information about local admission “guarantee”. Presumably your high school counselors would know if this applies to you. If so, then there shouldn’t be a problem.
Supposedly it’s then very difficult to get in if your in-state, but not local (since out of state pays more tuition, so therefore presumably more desirable). But most of the people who claim that are people who got rejected or waitlisted.
My CSU EI is about 4250ish, possibly higher
I think your list is on target with Safeties/Matches and Reaches.
You pretty much got it all right on what your fits and reaches are.
Yeah, assuming that you get a good SAT, the only thing that is holding you back is your GPA. Are your lower grades primarily from freshman year, or are they scattered around? A strong upward trend is always better than a downward trend. Try to get all As senior year and bring your GPA up, again, that’s the only thing that is holding you down.
Senior year grades and Freshman grades are not factored into the CSU/UC GPA’s, but doing well all 4 years is important to be a competitive applicant.
more gpa information:
UC/CSU GPA: 3.85
Unweighted GPA: 3.54
Weighted: 3.;77
also my CSU Eligibility Index is ~4300
i agree - you seem to have it pretty well sorted out.
Good luck
