Hey guys
So I’m currently at the end of my junior year and am preparing to start applying to college this fall. Just wanted to get some opinions on where I can get admitted. I live in CA
I’m looking at:
UofSF
Santa Clara Uni
UofIL Champaign(lots of family alumni)
USC
CalTech
UNLV
Cal Poly
Occidental
Northwestern
Grades
My Cumulative GPA is trash as it currently sits at a 2.6(will be around a 2.8 after everything is done this year) and it’s caused by a number of reasons mainly alluding to things fresh/soph yr. But I do have an extreme upward trend this year(from straight in the 2.0s first two years to now 3.33-3.8).
SAT: Results will be here in June but am expecting 1300+ and will probably study and retake to get it in the 1500s
Also will be graduating with my GE more than half way done(30+ credits)
Senior year I will have 2 APs, Honors Chem, econ, and global issues
ECs:
Freshman year JV bball
Soph-now AAU bball
Entrepreneur since 2012 making over 20k on my own
Part time job at Trader Joe’s
Participating in ACE program at Sac State
Volunteering at runs, gym, hospital for 60+ hours
VP for Pop Culture Club, Raised 1k for a local charity helping single moms
Gender: Male
Race: South Asian/Middle Eastern
Thanks
Your GPA is holding you back from most of the schools on your list. Upward trend is good but what is your current cumulative uwGPA? It is also a bit late for a Junior taking SAT in May the first time.
@billcsho My junior year Cumulative is a 3.5
What do you mean it’s a bit late? I’ve already taken it
^ All the junior students in my D’s class already have at least one SAT or ACT score on hand, not pending. Many took the first test by the end of the first semester in junior. Ideally, one should try to finish all SAT1 and/or ACT tests including retakes by the end of junior year. Fortunately, there is now an August SAT this year.
Oh okay. If I do retake I will doing the one in august
any reason for no replies?
Wait till you have a real score. There is no point to chance without a real score.
Bump.
SAT score is a 1300
Major is most likely Pharma and/or finance.
Being honest, you have almost no chance at USC, CalTech, or Northwestern. Your GPA is more than a full point less than their averages and you would need to have an act in 33-36 range or an sat of 1500+ to get into those schools in the first place. As for the other colleges, I cannot give you an accurate prediction.
Your GPA is honestly a major drawback, but you can try working on your SAT to make it higher than 1500 if you want to be a competitive applicant. IMO, it seems like a finance major is better for you than pharm based on your EC’s.
Based on your current stats, CalTech, USC, Cal Poly, and Northwestern are out or are extremely high reaches. Santa Clara and Occidental are reaches. UofSF, UNLV and UofIL are low reaches/targets. You have a good chance at UofIL since you have alumni connections.
I’d appreciate it if you can chance me back! http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/2000649-chance-me-low-rank-common-ecs-cornell-harvard-wharton-etc.html#latest
Santa Clara University, USC, Caltech, CalPoly, and Northwestern are pretty much out of reach for you with your GPA. Even with your alumni connections, admission into UIUC will be tough. I think if you can bring up that GPA by a point or two by the time you send in your application and improve your SAT to 1500+, you have a decent shot at USF, UNLV, and Occidental. Good luck! @tripledouble2000 I’m not too educated on any of the schools on your list! Thank you for the chance though
