Chance me! (USC, UWashington, UCB, UCLA, UCD, UCI)

GPA: 3.85 (Upward trend) 3.56 Freshman 4.0 Soph 4.0 Junior 4.0/4.0 college GPA Senior (predicted) Rank: 13/220

From Washington

Major: 1st choice: Computer Science/Business Administration 2nd choice: Economics/Math

Courses:Took all ap courses offered + dual enrollment. 3 AP’s (4 is the maximum, I didn’t want to take AP Stats - too easy), Linear Algebra, Calc 1 - 3, Engineering Physics 1 - 2 and college level social science classes in dual enrollment.

School: A really low performing school, the “overachievers” go to our state flagship. Only 4 AP’s are offered(I took 3 of them) and no honors are offered.

SAT: 2050 superscored; (630 CR 800M 620W) - My school averages a 1300 on the SAT, not sure how this will affect the weight. Low by collegeconfidential’s standards… Sorry guys not my fault I didn’t have private tutors!

SAT II’s: Chinese w/ Listening: 800

ECs: -President/founder of computer science club
-President/founder of finance club, 1 Varsity sport(not recruited)
-Worked a job for over 2+ years(contributing all my earnings to my family)
-200+ hours of community services
-Network security research with University of Washington’s CSE department
-Managed a 20k portfolio averaging 12% returns(started from 8k)
-Math and sciences tutor at my local community college(only high school student tutor).

Rec’s are 9/10 at best but probably going to be an 8.

Hooks: First-gen, Low income, Upward bound, had a job for 2+years?

Personal statement is good according to all of my proofreaders. (Wrote about overcoming poverty by working a job to support my family financially.)

I would say you definitely have a good shot at UW. I don’t know about the UC’s but would definitely say it’s worth a shot.

Oops, my single highest is 2050 (3rd try). I wasn’t fully informed of the word “superscored” when I was writing this post.

UCI: Match
UCD: HIgh Match
UCLA/UCB: Reach

Since you are low income, even if you are accepted any of the UC’s, you will get no financial aid other than federal grants which would hardly make a dent in the $55K/year cost. These schools are unaffordable so I hope you have some in-state safety schools on your list that are affordable.

Good Luck.

@Gumbymom You are correct. I am hoping for a full ride scholarship for the UC’s. Atm, USC is my first choice since they meet 100% need. What do you think about my chances at USC? Univ Of Washington is my safety.

^Your chances for USC is about the same as UCLA/UCB. In my opinion USC cares more about scores than UCs and, as such, your rather low score makes your chances rather low as well: Reach

@uclaparent9 I heard they only look at CR + M. If this is so then my CR + M is equivalent to a 33 on the ACT

^that is new to me. If that is the case (which I do not believe is the case), then low-reach.

@wingear thats not true. Their averages include the writing component. I visited them. Make sure your essays are good according to college admission readers just tobe safe. Yuor gpa is average and test scores are rather low. Ecs are great, but utilize the essays. I want to go those schools, except for UW, just like you.

USC-low reach, high match
UW- no idea but since its your safety and has a 50%~ acceptance, maybe a high safety
UCB/UCLA-High match
UCD/I-Match, low match

can you chance me as well? only for USC, i guess.

UC’s do not offer full ride scholarships for out of state applicants. Run the net price calculator to confirm. At the minimum, you will be expected to pay the $24K/year OOS supplemental tuition + EFC up to full costs.

USC: Low Reach and your stats are not high enough to get a full ride there either.
