I go to a private school that does not rank
ED to Rice
RA to Wash U

Chance me and I’ll chance ya back!

I am going to have to say slight reach to reach, UNLESS you are super good at football.
Your scores are ok (USC average), but definitely not enough to bolster your gpa.

I was actually hoping my EC’s would cover the GPA.

UW 3.4/ W 3.6
dramatic increase curve of grades
Freshman-2.8UW
Sophomore-3.4UW
Junior-3.7UW
Senior-lookin like a 4.2W 4.0UW

I’ve heard some schools don’t look at freshman year. Would that apply in this case?

Also, Does anyone know if alumni would help enough to get me in? My mom actually attended USC and donates towards their alumni fund.

He’d have to be a recruited athlete in order for football to make any difference in his app. And considering the caliber of USC’s football team, I don’t see that in this case.

Your scores won’t help or hinder you, I’ll give you that. I think that your summer internship/science EC’s and your community service are going to be what puts you over the top. You have a good chance of getting in.

Thanks for the reply. I play for a small 35 graduates a year school’s football team…I don’t plan on playing with 300+lb guys on such an amazing team such as USC.

I hope my essays help; One misc thing I didn’t mention: I fly private jets for fun and passed ground school. Just waiting to turn 17 and get that license.

Can anyone address whether USC has a strong alumni network and whether that alumni factor would boost me in?

I definitely think you have a good shot. Your act score should be able to make up for your GPA. Good luck!

eh GPA is kinda low for Rice… i say big reach for Rice…

ACT
E:31
M:32
R:27
S:35

Thanks for the input guys.

thanks for chancing me!
i think you have a good shot. the low gpa is gonna hurt you, but the upward trend will be a big assist. you should mention the thing about private jets. that is so cool!!!

My main commonapp essay was about flying so I hope it will help distinguish me from other applicants. USC is my dream school so I [huge emphasis] REALLY want it.
I applied to the USC BMD program because my interest was in medicine…but it really dont look likely because of the GPA factor.

I took the most rigorous courses my school had to offer with the exception of AP Latin Vergil since I was a tranfer in sophomore year.

Reach but hey I might be wrong

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/606894-chance-no-chance-question.html</a></p>

Low reach for USC…you’ve got to have some good recs and essay for a 50% shot. Maybe.

ED to Rice…reach. Your scores aren’t exactly the best match. Maybe low reach…depending on your essays and how you presented your EC’s.

RA to Washington U…high reach. You want to forget about it. Washington University places heavy emphasis on their early decision applicants, as those applicants express the most interest. RA acceptance is very slim…and hard, cause they have most of their picks from the ED pool already.

Thanks for the input.
Right now I think my GPA is the biggest factor that is dragging me back.
Hopefully they’ll see my rigorous senior year courses with all A’s hopefully and maybe… let me through the door?

Echo- My sis actually goes to wash U so I thought i’d give it a shot. I’ve had contact with the admissions there but chose to ED to rice instead because I wasn’t sure I wanted to go there(to washu). We’ll see how that goes.

Anyone else?

alumni connection is considered, so thats a plus

but i’d still have to say a small reach

I 'd say you are in not because of your stats (Act is good), but because of your alumni association. USC is a “profiteering institution”. They love money. I have many friends who have lower stats then you, but got in because their parents donated money to the school.

USC/Rice–Reach
WUSTL–Big Reach

You need to reconsider where you are applying. Your GPA and test scores and extracurriculars are closer to acceptances for schools like Purdue, Chapman, UC Riverside, UC Santa Cruz, Washington, Colorado, Indiana, and Kentucky.

Again, thanks to all those who replied.

Calcruzer- I am not just applying to these three schools. These are just the ones at the top of my list that I would like to attend the most on my list.

Do you mean GPA/Test scores/EC’s averaged together? Or each one individually?
close to acceptances…how so percentage-wise?

If your dream school is USC, why did you apply ED to Rice?
You have a nice science theme to your EC’s; I would emphasize that if that is something you may major in. May want to address your inspiration for upping your gpa; make sure you send them your midterm grades if they are good; even before they ask for them.
good luck
