Chance Me: USNA Asian applicant

Hi there~
I’m applying for USNA class of 2022 (oh my gahhh)
and I want to know if I have a good shot at getting in with my sh*tty as heck ACT scores/GPA. Thank you.
This last semester shot my gpa down from a 3.9 to a 3.89 (thanks AP comp sci) so I’m even more paranoid that I won’t get in.

GPA: 3.89/4.23
rank: 20/446 (top 5%)
ACT: math: 29 english: 32
course load for senior year: all APs (with two sciences) except for journalism.
I took ap physics 1, calc ab, comp, english with non-aps of spanish and journalism

special awards:
won 1st/2nd place at state science fair in medicien/microbio (soph/junior)
recognized at internationals as an observer (woohoo intel ISEF)
editor in chief of my school newspaper
3-year varsity athlete
worked as a lifeguard/swim instructor (keep in mind though: it was 10 hours a week)
went to NASS (don’t think this will help my chances but i loved it)
passed CFA (maxed 2 events but wow my running time sucked)

helpers:
female
asian, first gen(this actually probably won’t help me)
live in a non-competitive state (I pray to God senators will nominate me)
sister attends naval academy(don’t think this will help either but)

am i missing anything?? um…
i think that’s it.

thank you

BEAT ARMY!

edit: i just looked at other asian kids resumes for USNA and wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww let me just say tears are falling. do i still have a chance? thank u

Are you serious about complaining on dropping from 3.90 to 3.89?

What is your composite ACT? What state are you from? You say not competitive so not VA/MD or the other difficult ones. The state matters, especially with marginal ACT. I would study to get your math score up.

yes, I am. Sorry about that but I’m super picky like that. My composite ACT was a 30 and I’m from Oregon.Yeah I’m retaking the ACT this september

Well I’m going to be a napster this year so if i complete naps successfully i will be usna class of 2022! Umm so i am a hispanic female and let me tell you that is a big booster! I got my congressmans nomination. I thibk you have pretty good material to get in. Its not impossible. Advice to give you is to finish yoir application. If you dont finish it, theres 0% you’ll get in. The application is long and hard, its meant to be that way. Please just finish it. Trust me. Most people give up halfway through. If they think that you have what it takes but you’re just missing one little bit, they might offer you naps (naval academy preparatory school/naps) you can do some research on that too! (Thats what I’m doing) also look up or ask about candidate visit weekened around the end of the year!

Being an Asian female from non Korean Chinese Japanese descent will definitely help. Put into same category as Hispanic applicant. Koreans are well represented so that won’t help you. They expect more from Koreans since they are so well represented at all services. Average Koreans will have Math 31 English 31. Try to hit at least that.

Work On your math ACT. ACT is harder Math than SAT so counts more when they equalize to SAT. Take ACT again in Dec. Your sister at Navy will help your cause. They will not second guess you why you want to attend. Your GPA will be redone with unweighted. Anything 90 or better will get 4.0. And 80-89 3.0. You need Leadership ECs. Quality counts.

Prep school is another great option. You will earn time to learn more and really appreciate that you had another year of relevant academic prep. Rachel is taking the right path. Prep Sch is offerered if they think you are a good fit

hello! thank you for your insight. I retook my SAT for math and got 730. will that be good enough? also I’ve been an editor for my newspaper for four years and i’m wondering if those are enough leadership roles? One more thing, how important are recommendation letters? My teacher didn’t write me a great one and I’m very worried.

To anyone else who is wondering whether or not they should “chance” themselves: DON’T. Do NOT USE THIS SITE. You cannot delete, edit ANYTHING after a very small time period (15 min), even if you delete your account. AGAIN: HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND
