Hello! I’ll be applying to UT Austin as an out-of-state student from Chicago and I’m looking to major in Nursing. Here’s a bit more about me:
I’ll be graduating a semester early and in my gap semester I’ll be completing an EMT program to gain clinical experience and exposure to the healthcare world
SAT: 1330 (700 Reading 630 Math); I should be getting test results from my September SAT shortly
GPA: 4.34 W / 3.82 UW
Mostly honors/AP classes throughout all 4 years
Activities:
Varsity Track and Field (school)
Club Track and Field
Black Student Alliance
Key Club
Hospital Volunteer ( 2 years, about 100 hours)
Tutor/Mentor for children throughout my community
Various Jobs
Awards/Recognition:
All-Academic All Conference
College Board National Recognition Program Winner
Salute to Academic Achievement Award from the University of Illinois’ system
I know it is tough for out of state applicants to gain admission to UT, but this is my #1 school!
Do you feel lucky? 10 percent of the student population comes from out of state AND international. Those aren’t the greatest odds. It never hurts to apply and take a chance.
@Kdon2021 , how did your September SAT score turn out? I’ve heard Nursing is VERY competitive to get in, even for in state students. Also, I think the program is relatively smallish compared to a lot of the other majors so the competition is that much greater. Your gap semester of EMT training looks very good to me though! That shows a great way to invest your time in a gap semester. UT is all about showing your “fit to a major” so you have that nailed I think. Come join us over on the “Class of 2025 UT Admissions/Discussions/Decisions” page and we can twiddle our thumbs together while we wait!
@Kdon2021 if you can improve your SAT to over 1400 and your class rank is top 6%.
UT Austin has about 5000 out of state applications for undergraduate degrees each year and about 2000 of them got accepted, but note that all these 5000 applicants have very high SAT/ACT and class rank.
