Your GPA is a liability for UW Madison and UIUC depending upon what college at UIUC you are applying to. UW Madison is actually pretty hard to get into, easier if you are a Wisconsin resident perhaps but still not easy

Thanks! Yea, i do live in Wisconsin, so hopefully it will be easier. And for UIUC i plan to enter the college of engineering, but I already know that will be a reach.

The freshman admit rate to UW-Madison for Wisconsin residents is 70%…work on that GPA!

For UIUC, the chance actually depends on major, not just engineering. However, the stat for individual program is hard to find. They show one slide at the information session a couple years ago but I cannot find that info anywhere on the web. Anyway, the admission average GPA for UIUC engineering has been 3.9 and the mid 50 ACT was 31-34 in the last couple years. Their in state admission rate is high. Their financial aid really sucks and they don’t have much merit scholarships.

Yeah, after some talk with my parents, I don’t think I will apply there.
@Madison85 Thanks for the input! Do you think having a recommendation letter can help?

It would be foolish not to have a recommendation letter!

UIUC does not want any LOR. That would be the only exception.
