Just the Facts-
* i go to a pretty good public high school. we've been known to produce like... 7-12 ivy league-ers every year, and even more attend pseudo-ivy's like Rice, Emory, NWetern, etc.
* My current grade is on crack. A gpa equivalent to last year's class rank of 25th is equivalent to this year's.... maybe 60th?
* I'm not gonna lie, a lot of this info is gonna be updated before i apply, so i'm inserting what i think is likely without over/understepping my abilities (especially on test scores/gpa)
* I'm a white (the admissions-ly subjugated race, lol) male in my senior year in Alabama.

GPA- 4.49 W, 3.85 UW (i got 3 B's freshman year and one since)

Junior- 1 AP, 4 honors (i didn't make the AP exams)
Senior- 5 AP, 2 honors
note, i have not taken any SATII's or AP tests. I might take two SATII's soon. Any suggestions for which ones to take?

COLLEGES-
Vanderbilt (early decision) (my dad went here, legacy FTW)
Emory (early action) (second choice)
Georgetown
Wake Forest
NYU (my granddad went here, legacy?)
UVirginia
Notre Dame
Furman College
Alabama Honors College (fallbackfallbackfallbackfallbackfallback safety-tasticfallback)

Your GPA is overall pretty decent for the schools you are applying to; rank is good. The act is okay, but a 34 would help a lot. You seem to be very dedicated to debate, and as a result you are quite successful. Work experience and volunteer hours are always a plus.
Why didn’t you make the AP exam junior year?
What is your intended major? This would help with chances and what SAT II’s to take.

Vanderbilt - high match with the legacy ED, just make sure essay is good
Emory- low reach (as far as I know they only have ED not EA)
Georgetown- not sure
Wake Forest- high match
NYU- low reach if you have legacy
not sure about the rest

good luck and try to make your volunteer work seem unique.

You have really good academics. 25th is very good out of 430 still, as it is way past the top 10%. You’re ACT is solid for the schools mentioned. However, your EC’s are little spread out and don’t really have too much depth. Doubt that it will matter much however since you aren’t applying to Ivy’s/top colleges! You have a very solid chance at Vanderbilt. Everything UVA and down is match/sure in, and the rest above that is a high match! Good luck

Whatever your major is (it’s not stated haha), take relevant SAT II tests in those fields and score extremely well on them. IE, Mathematics if you’re a Math major, etc. Like what cornelldream said, play up your involvement in Debate.

Maybe it’s just me but I wouldn’t mention being a member of a generic service group unless you were a member or it relates to debate or your major. Ditto for the Homecoming set up leader, it’s not hurting your case but it’s not particularly helping either.

Pretty good…nice GPA, good ACT (its out of 36 right?)

Vanderbilt - match (ED and legacy helps)
Emory- low reach
Georgetown- IDK
Wake Forest- IDK
NYU- high-ish match…i’ve seen some ppl rejected with pretty good stats
UVirginia match
Notre Dame low reach

From your EC’s and Georgetown & Emory looks like you’re applying to politics or law or something of that sort…right?

I’d take 3 SAT II’s–literature, math 2C and a science to show you’re a well rounded person…i wouldnt take US or world history cuz looks you’re a senior now and prolly forgot most of your history like I did hahah

haha i’m interested in both law and med, not decided yet (of course.) thanks for the suggestions/full analysis. would it be okay to only take 2 SATII’s? idk if i have time to study for three D:

Vanderbilt (early decision) (my dad went here, legacy FTW)-with ED Match
Emory (early action) (second choice) with EA match
Georgetown low reach
Wake Forest match
NYU (my granddad went here, legacy?) low reach
UVirginia reach
Notre Dame low reach
Furman College low reach

Vanderbilt (early decision) (my dad went here, legacy FTW) match
Emory (early action) (second choice) match-y
Georgetown match-small reach
NYU (my granddad went here, legacy?) seems really out of place here, but match/in
UVirginia oos match, in state in
Notre Dame match

COLLEGES-
Vanderbilt (early decision) - highish match
Emory (early action) - highish match
Georgetown - reach
Wake Forest - not sure
NYU - high match
UVirginia - Not sure- match
Notre Dame - reach
Furman College - not sure
Alabama Honors College - Safety

you should be in Vandy ED especially with the legacy, just dont mess up the essays.

Emory high match/low reach (If you apply ED II I would change that to Match)
Georgetown low reach
Wake Forest match
NYU match
Notre Dame high match
Furman College In
Alabama Honors College Safety for sure

Vanderbilt: in
Emory: not in?
Georgetown: not in
Wake Forest: in
NYU: in, but won’t go
UVirginia: not in
Notre Dame: not in
Furman College: in
Alabama Honors College: in

I’m not using the match/reach stuff. But those are my guesses. Legacy at Vandy will probably secure your spot, and since that’s your #1, I’m sure the others won’t even matter. I had a friend get in there last year early (I think he’s playing baseball, though) with a similar app (GPA, ACT), only with a lot of sports. And I had another friend get waitlisted and rejected from Vanderbilt with a similar GPA/ACT who is now at U Chicago with a full ride. So it’s kind of a toss up, but I think you’ll get in with legacy. It’s a southern school, I feel like legacy would be a big deal. Chance back (similar schools)?
