Assuming great letters of recommendations and other applications details, where do I sit if I apply ED, and what could I do to improve my odds?
Everything is solid; you have as good a shot as anyone else. Try and write the best essay possible. Which college are you applying to? Good luck!
Vandy is definitely on the top of my list, but Rice is a close second. Stuck between which will give me the best ED odds.
@jern121212 one option would be to apply ED to Rice and then EDii to Vanderbilt.
Vanderbilt has ED1 and ED2. Rice only has ED1. Both are very hard admissions RD. The ED admission rate at Rice was 15.5 percent compared to the overall admission rate of 8.7 percent. Rice’s applications were up sharply this year due to a new financial aid initiative.

@albertsax
i don’t think you can ED to both bc if you then you run the risk of these colleges finding out and you can rejected from both.The ED process for both are binding.
also what’s your intended major?
You can indeed do ED1 to one school and, if unsuccessful, do ED2 to another.
Yes, but Rice doesn’t have ED2, so it is a harder decision for @jern121212 . The odds of getting in either Vandy or Rice are a lot more in his/her favor if he/she applies ED1. However, if he/she gets in Rice ED1, he/she is committed. Perhaps some Vandy gurus on here have some data about the ED2 admission rate versus the ED1 and RD admission rates. If his/her heart really is for Vandy as his/her first choice go for it. If he/she strikes out, he/she can ED2 to another school and apply RD to Rice. As a Vandy alum and mom of a Rice student, I say you can’t go wrong either way. Are you a recruit for any of your sports? That can really tip the ED scale.
