I think you have very good chances according to the stats of VT, i would say your SAT math score is weak for engineering though.

Thank you for your response! Would you say this is a low reach?

I’d say high match slightly more than low reach, but it’d be a solid match if the math score was about 30-40 points higher.

I agree that math is potentially a problem for Eng, but you still have a viable chance. Also, I know a girl who was in Gov’s School at VT, too, and she didn’t get in last year. It didn’t seem to help with average scores. Just FYI, in VT’s cds report for 2014, a 630 Math is the minimum in the 25th percentile of the enrolled students (which does not mean you would be denied automatically, BTW). Also, for the enrolled, a GPA of 4.22 is AVERAGE, and you are on the safe side of that, and they do want people like you to keep the GPA stats strong. But, you can imagine that Eng stats are on the high side of those averages.

OMG, I apologize profusely. I pulled the wrong numbers, and VT’s are much lower and attainable. The numbers I gave above are for UVa not VT!!! Sorry!

I think you’re a match. My son was accepted last year for ENG and I think you have better scores and GPA. He was also awarded merit aid. He chose to attend another school.

@PERplexD‌ Did your son get in Early Decision? or did he apply regular?

Regular. Sorry, I missed that bit of info on yours. Even if you don’t get ED you might get defferred to Regular. Good luck!
