Chance me W&L admission!

Hey there! I am wondering about my admission chances to Washington and Lee university. I will apply RD and my sister is a student there. I have a 31 ACT, and am hoping to raise it over the next few months. I have a 3.85 GPA and will have (when I apply) taken 9 AP classes (AP human geography, AP Biology, AP Seminar, AP US history, AP US Gov, AP English Language, AP Spanish, AP Psych, and AP Research). I have also taken 2 Dual credits (dual credit Spanish and Dual credit chemistry). I have a 4.25 weighted GPA. I participate in several extra curriculars, including:
-President of Cards for Compassion
-Secretary of Women in Stem
-6 years of varsity high school swimming (team captain)
-Y club
-National Honor Society
-Beta Club
-National Art honors society
-National Math honors society
-National Science honors society
-Volunteer at Local zoo and am on Youth Board at Local zoo
-4 Years participation in Performance Troupe (dance classes and performances)
-Participation in various musicals, including some lead roles
-Acceptance to the Kenyon college summer writing Program
-Work as camp counselor at Christian camp over the summer
-Teach dance classes to children at local arts center
-attended W&L music honors weekend

I would enter in as a double major in Biology and Spanish with a poverty minor. Chance me please, I would appreciate it! Fall admission

Even though your stats might be on the low side, I think you have a great shot. You ECs should make up for your stats (which are decent, just on the low side for acceptance), and your sister legacy will probably push you over the edge.

I agree with @jw31415. I think your odds of admission could go up depending on your state. Some states send a lot of students to W&L and it is harder to get in from those states. It’s easier from the states with fewer applicants. Your sister can give you a good sense of where your state lies. Also, make sure you visit And show interest.

W&L just went test optional too

I don’t know if this helps, but I am going to W&L next year (thus I got in regular decision) and my stats and extracurriculars are insanely close to yours. I may have gotten in by the skin of my teeth, I honestly don’t know. If you look at my comments on other threads you’ll see all of my stats and ec’s. Anyway, I hope that is a little bit of reassurance.

I would disagree with this statement. Sibling legacy is generally much less effective in college admissions than parent legacy. There may be some small effect, but I wouldn’t count on it.

I’d guess 50%-50%.
