Forgot to mention that I will be applying Early Decision

Have you visited? Interest is important to WashU.

@Waldo755 yes I have visited the WashU campus, attended a local information session, and will be applying ED

Also forgot to mention that my weighted GPA is a 4.13/4.4

GPA and standardized test scores look good with the exception of the APs. AP scores seem low for someone with that high of a GPA/SAT-would have expected all 5s. I would probably not report them except for the 4s.

I would also suggest requesting an interview as well if possible.

Have you taken a foreign language as well?

@Hamurtle I have taken Spanish 2 Monolingual in my sophomore year. However, for some reason I have always struggled with AP testing. Will the AP testing be a huge downfall with regards to any top 20 admissions (especially WashU)?

Most Top 20 schools would want applicants to have taken a language up to level 4. There could be an issue with taking a language to level 2 only.

APs are self-reported anyways and it’s up to you to send the scores or not. Good scores may help a borderline application. Your acceptance or rejection to any school depends on multiple factors. It’s just odd that with your grades and SAT scores, the AP scores don’t add up.

@Hamurtle that’s true. But my school only offers spanish mono up to level 3. Level 4 is just AP spanish Literature which is meant for native speakers. So more or less I have nearly completed all the monolingual classes for spanish. However, how would you evaluate my chances at WashU ed even with the bad ap scores and low level foreign language?

also hope that my grades, ECs, independent projects, and SAT scores can make up for the AP scores/Spanish level

Should be good re ED. Need to make sure you’re ok being in the middle of the student pack there. It’s very competitive. When i visited the tour guide discussed all the resources available for students due to the notable stress from the academic rigor etc.
