I was rejected by Stanford EA so I'm pretty nervous right now. However, that was probably due to some of the crappiest essays I have ever written (parents convinced me to apply EA at the ast minute). After having no life over winter break, the essays are much better now.

My main goal: Econ/International Business at Wharton, Columbia, Cornell, or NW
Stretches: Harvard, Yale, Princeton

What do you think my chances are? Thanks for your time!

Why are you applying for financial aid with an income of like 160k, you won’t anything hahaha. My HI is like 200k, and they would read that and laugh their asses off.

My parents r crazy, I definitely regret putting yes on apps, but it’s too late now :(

Haha, same my parents were ignorant as ****, they were like “The college will work with you” hahaha, no they won’t financial aid is income redistribution.

In regards to the fin. aid thing, it won’t matter because I’m pretty sure all the schools on your list are need-blind and don’t care about how much fin. aid you might need (except for perhaps Northwestern though I’m not sure). This is dependent on you being either a US citizen or green card holder. Internationals get screwed over.

I don’t know how to chance you but one thing that I thought was really cool was:

mostly because I know how hard trying to convince people to buy stuff is without being discouraged or annoying people. Congrats!

Colleges saying they are need blind is like saying colleges don’t consider race. They say they don’t, but they really do.

Yea haha considering my parents save every penny they earn … I’m definitely not getting any financial aid. But they insisted so I checked the yes box.

@Hit, what could I make clearer? This is the first thead I’ve posted, I don’t rly have much experience on cc.

Regarding Essays and Recs, My essays are solid and my recs are outstanding (I got one from my BPA advisor, I was the first State officer to be elected from my school in 24 years) and my econ teacher–who wrote an earlier rec that got me into the Stanford Summer College so it is at least decent.

based on your ECs, it seems like you’d be a pretty good fit for Wharton. Emphasize your interest in business/leadership

Thanks aston, Wharton is definitely my number one at this point :D. And yes, my essay was focused intensely on how my experiences developed in me an passion for business. I hope i get in >.<

BTW all, I will chance back 100%!

Wow it’s pretty impressive that you took Calculus AB/BC in freshman year.

Haha I am flattered whs but would rather have some chances. Btw… does whs happen to stand for wayzata high school?

with 160K family income, you still seek FA? are you crazy? if you go to a high school in China and now you apply to these top universities, i’d say you are in. but now, i’d say they are mid-reach. actually they should be low reach if you do not seek for FA…

good luck!!

i would say you are a match for cornell. i had a 2260 sat, 760 math 2, 750 bio, but a 4.0 gpa.

nah it stands for Westlake high school.
Match: Northwestern, wharton
Low Reach: Cornell, Columbia
Reach: HYP

@whs, I got to Wayzata, our acronym is also WHS :P.

Thanks for the input guys, I would be more than happy to chance any of you back!

Bump!!! Bump!!!

Your SATs, GPA and rank are good, and your awards/ECs are definately fine. I would say you have a good shot at all those schools, but basically all is up to essays (from what I’ve heard…). If you’re essays are good/unique:

Wharton - low reach if essays are great and your app let’s business shine through, high reach if essays are decent.
Cornell/NW - low reach/match (I think you’re def in here)
Columbia - mid reach
HYP - if essays are Hood and unique: mid reach. (wouldn’t be surprised if you ger into at least one of them!)

But like I said, I think it’s all up to the essays. Unfortunately for me… :stuck_out_tongue: also headed for top business schools but feel some of my supps are too plain/straightforward, especially Wharton :(

Anyways - Good Luck!

Please Chance back  http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1062868-chance-swede-wharton-harvard-yale-etc.html

Err, “its”. The irony.

While you present good numbers, your EC’s are rather pedestrian. Nothing really stands out or sets you apart from the thousands of other high-stats kids interested in pursuing business degrees at the highest level. Sorry, but you look like a pretty average applicant to these schools.

To help you prepare for college, as well as for the business career you seek, you should be aware that the vast majority of American colleges and employers have a zero tolerance policy regarding ethnic slurs, with suspension as a minimum punishment and expulsion (or firing, in the business world) common.
