You should be a very strong candidate for both colleges- good luck! You have a compelling backstory and a strong academic foundation. My cousin went to Wharton and she had a great time- I’d probably recommend Wharton over Columbia, simply because Columbia’s in NYC and therefore very very very expensive. Nevertheless, the two are great choices and you’d be very lucky to be accepted into either!

bummmmmmmmmmp

how is your GPA weighted?

I think you have a decent chance at both based on your ECs. but you haven’t given a lot of indication as to what your major will/might be

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1555571-chance-me-ill-chance-back.html</a> maybe :D

Gpa weighted is 4.7 academic stats are at the top

bumpbumpbump

Low match for both…I seriously see good odds. ECs look polished, Hard hard courses taken, harder scores achieved. Its down to how you present yourself to these colleges, that’ll make or break you. I wish you the best of luck, and wish I had your stats and achievements…

Chance back if you will? (cornell ED, Georgetown, Tufts, Rice, JHU, etc)
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1550070-looking-some-helpful-input-chance-me.html</a></p>

Thank you and Bump!

You will be very competitive. Be mindful that there are far fewer positions than there are qualified candidates at the se schools you have listed. You may well get admitted, but you should have some safeties. Those school are reaches for everyone. Best of luck!

You have solid stats and scores. Your ECs are strong and show dedication and interest, but they’re not spectacular. Your hook is interesting and honestly, it’s probably enough to get you in combined with your other stuff. Don’t play up the pity card but talk about how it changed your life and you should be good to go.

I don’t quite agree.

For the Penn application, you need to be specific about your reasons for choosing the university and the school. I don’t see any thought about these and wonder whether you’re just picking a difficult target because it’s difficult.

And Columbia has a particular, well-defined core curriculum that all students must take. Why do you want to do that? I think the admissions committee will want to know.

And if your family income hovers around the $30,000 mark, you definitely will need huge financial aid. You can qualify for lots of automatic merit aid at other schools if you apply early.
