Chance me, will chance back (UCs, etc)

M - 770
W - 600
Total - 1930

SAT IIs
Chinese - 800
Math - 800
Physics 750

GPA
Unweighted - 4.0
Weighted (9-12): 4.5

Senior classes:
Physics C
Multivariable Calculus/Adv. Calc
English 4
Macro/Micro Econ AP
US History
Biology 1A (Just one semester)
Government

ECs: NHS, was president of a club last year, 200+ hours of community volunteering service
Over 1000+ hours as a self-employed translator (not sure if this counts, because there are technically no "adults" supervising)

I transferred in halfway through freshman year, so I had to finish some of my core courses to graduate...

Currently living in Cal, Asian.

All of them economics major; I took 5 years of maths within 4 years, not sure if that will help or not.

UC Berkeley

UC Los Angeles

UC San Diego

USC

NYU

Carnegie Mellon

Northwestern

Cornell

Also, will take SATs in December hoping to raise scores.

What are my chances?

Thanks!

in at all UCs. Your SATI is weak for the top 2 but I know people with much lower stats who got in too. How distinguished is your high school? Being at a “bad” school would help justify the SAT score

On a second look, such an easy senior schedule will drop your chances a bit…unless of course your school doesn’t offer much more rigor for 12th grade

All right, thanks for your input!

UC Berkeley- reach (sat score i heard was around 2200)

UC Los Angeles (same as above)

UC San Diego- low match… gpa is way higher than standard. sat is slightly lower

USC (same as 1,2)

NYU (low match same reason as 3)

Carnegie Mellon (not so sure)

Northwestern (same as 1 ,2)

Cornell (same as 1,2)

Beautiful GPA. try to redo ur sat 1 in december as it would still make UCs. Would drastically improve your chances.

chance me bak =]

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/809908-chance-me-uci-ucsd-ucla-ucb-thanks-so-much-advance.html</a></p>

UC Berkeley - Slight Reach (GPA is good, but SAT is weighing you down a lot)

UC Los Angeles Slight Reach (GPA is good, but SAT is weighing you down a lot)

UC San Diego - In

USC - Slight Reach (same as UCB and UCLA)

NYU - In

Carnegie Mellon - In

Northwestern - (same as UCB and UCLA)

Cornell - Slight Reach

The could thing however is that your SAT II’s are amazing which shows that you actually know the curriculum very well and that the SAT I just shows that you’re reading/writing aren’t the best. Since your major is economics I think some colleges might be able to see past your SAT I score.

I hate myself for using “slight” so much, but it really does come down to the overall balance of how the admission officer sees you. Essays could be a deciding factor here.
I would redo the SAT I in December because you could still send that in for some of the privates like Northwestern, USC, NYU, and Cornell

Chance me back:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/810864-high-sat-low-gpa-where-should-i-apply-2.html</a></p>

Thank you both!

@NiklasK, UCs also accept the December scores too fyi :)

In reply to those above: the guy has a 4.0 unweighted GPA, it’s awesome. The 4.0 UW at my school got into Berkeley with a 1550 SATI and no hooks. Sure that’s just on case out of thousands, but it proves a point that you don’t need to be superb at everything.

Also, retaking the SAT in December would still be early enough for UCs

UC Berkeley - Low Reach
UC Los Angeles - Low Reach
UC San Diego - In
USC - Low Reach
NYU - In
Carnegie Mellon - Low Reach
Northwestern - Reach
Cornell - Reach

Chance back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/811337-chance-me-penn-please-ill-chance-back.html</a></p>

bump

if I want to apply to Stern, what are my chances?

Great GPA and subject tests. Can you retake the SAT? Consider a private Kaplan tutor. They’re expensive, but worth it. They tailor their tutoring to your needs and help you focus on them. After working with one, I jumped 80 points math, 60 points critical reading, and 20 points writing.

You’re in at NYU and Carnegie Mellon. I don’t know, I think that you can make USC from what I’ve heard about it, but I’m from Ohio.

I got into Berkeley last year. My SATs were higher, but my GPA wasn’t nearly as good as yours and I didn’t have great service at the time. My activities were about as interesting as yours. Based on that, I think you can do it. From what I’ve heard, UCLA and UCSD are easier to get into than Berkeley, so you can make it there with a bit more ease.

Northwestern may be tough, maybe not. I know little about it.

Ivies are weird. Nobody has a good shot at any Ivy, even though Cornell is supposedly the “easiest” (re: extremely selective instead of ridiculously selective) Ivy to get into. If your essays are good and you can give a good interview, I could see you maybe getting in.

Dude, working on your own as a translator is AMAZING! I hope you write about it. It’s BETTER that there were no adults supervising, it proves that you are entrepreneurial, talented, and independent. Talk about your work bridging the gaps and what it feels like to help people as a translator. Definitely play that up and talk about it whenever you get a chance.

How many of your senior classes are APs? That may help/hurt you, depending on whether its more/fewer/same as last year.

Best of luck. I hope this helps. Could you chance me? Mine’s called Crossing My Fingers. I’d appreciate it. Thanks. Peace.
