Chance me! Will Chance back!

Schools I'm applying to:
Harvard, Princeton, Stanford (I know these are unlikely. Don't even bother to chance me for these v___v)
UPenn (ED - SEAS)
Brown
Columbia
Dartmouth
Duke (Biomed. Engineering)
Carnegie Mellon (Maybe Biomed. Engineering)
JHU (Biomed. Engineering)
NYU
University of Toronto, Queens University (my safeties)

Other than the schools I listed that I would apply engineering for, I guess the rest I would just apply for Arts&Sciences and maybe like a bio major (cause the rest of the schools aren't really strong in engineering)

Gender: F
Ethnicity: Chinese
Location: MA
High School: New England Boarding School
High School Type: sends many, many grads to top schools

My school doesn't rank or have a GPA.
But I guess my GPA would be something like 5.0/6.0 overall, 5.2/6.0 for eleventh grade.

Scores:
Ignoring my SAT I scores. shudder
ACT (composite 34)
writing: 34
math: 33
reading: 35
science: 35
SAT II Math Level 2 (IIC): 800
SAT II Biology - E: 690
SAT II Chemistry: 690
AP French: 4
AP Bio: 4

Extracurriculars:

Significant Extracurriculars: Asian Society, Pot Pourri (Yearbook), Art for Expression (Art Club), Chorus, Piano, Junior Play, Unaccompanied Minors (Independent Student Orchestra, flute)
Leadership positions: President of Asian Society, Proctor in Dorm, Photoshop Editor of Yearbook, PR for Art Club
Athletic Status: Curling Team (I spent my freshman year in Toronto... hehe Canadian sports)
Volunteer/Service Work: Andover Chinese Cultural Outreach (teaching adopted Chinese children Chinese), Academy Minor (senior citizen home), Harmony Movement (Leadership in Ethnic Diversity)
Honors and Awards: John Grew French Prize
College Summer programs: Harvard (S1 CHEMISTRY)

Summer: Internship at pharmaceutical company in Shanghai, China
Volunteer at Health Clinic in Shanghai, China

Senior Classes
AP BC Calculus
AP Economics
AP Physics
AP Spanish (with a focus on literature)
AP US History (my school does US history differently.. in which you take history winter, spring of your junior year, and then fall of your senior year. so much for the AP exam)
Senior Elective English: Creative Writing

I've consistently taken an extra sixth course when the average course load at my school is five courses.

Recommendations:
English Teacher - will be very strong. I got a 6 all year round (it's out of 6) and he's really meticulous about recs, or so I've heard from previous students.
Bio Teacher - I think this will be a pretty decent rec, not as strong as my Eng rec though.
College Counselor - is also my house counselor. She knows me really well since I'm a proctor, so I'm pretty sure this will be a strong rec since she can provide a different perspective of what kind of person I am outside of the classroom.

Essays:
Very strong if I could say so myself haha
I seriously slaved away my life writing these things ;_;.

Hooks: I speak English, Chinese, French, Spanish, and Korean. And I've studied German and Latin as well for both a year in the ninth grade.

It would help us if you shared a little more about your transcript and your school’s grading system; it’s hard to chance you right now without understanding the context of your GPA, especially if you’re coming out of Andover.

That aside (and unless your GPA is very strong), with unimpressive extracurriculars and test scores, your chances at all the Ivies + Duke/Hopkins BME are not very good. That’s not to say that you’re out of the running, but it’s just that your application paints a very stereotypical picture of a stereotypical Asian student, stereotypically. But you should be fine at CMU and NYU.

Even if you could speak all of those languages fluently (well enough to get a full score on the corresponding SAT IIs), which is very doubtful, this would still not be considered a hook.

i think u’re very strong, so u have a good chance.

i also applied to Penn ED, here’s my stat

UPenn (ED - SEAS): low reach (ED advantage)
Brown: reach
Columbia: reach
Dartmouth: reach
Duke (Biomed. Engineering): reach
Carnegie Mellon (Maybe Biomed. Engineering): low reach/ high match
JHU (Biomed. Engineering): low reach/ high match
NYU: low reach/ high match
University of Toronto, Queens University (my safeties): ?
Decent grades, but not outstanding. ECs are good, and good language skills.

UPenn (ED - SEAS): low reach
Brown: low reach
Columbia: reach
Dartmouth: low/mid reach
Duke (Biomed. Engineering): low/mid reach
Carnegie Mellon (Maybe Biomed. Engineering): reach
JHU (Biomed. Engineering): low reach
NYU: low reach
University of Toronto, Queens University (my safeties): def acceptence
good grades could be better for ivy league. ECs are great and good language skills will def make you more attractive to colleges…GL

CHANCE ME
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/penn-state-university-park/1037429-just-applied-what-your-thoughts.html

right, so about our grading scale! my grades aren’t stellar ;___;… but our average grades for the senior class is about 4.6/6.0 i think. We’re all pretty happy to get 5’s and 6’s.

6 - 93-100
5 - 85-92
4 - 76-84
3/2/1 err I don’t really know.

our class sizes are about 8-13 people. so in each class one, maybe two people get a 6. (other than like, sciences/math haha. cause those are pretty quantitative)

anddd i don’t think i ever understood what a hook was @@. so forgive me on that!

and thanks to everyone else! knowing that penn ED is a low reach comforts me so much ;___;!!
