Chance me (will chance back)

ECs are not particularly great which certainly won’t help w/ the ivies. I would even move Duke into the reach category as of now. Seize the summer as a possible opportunity to explore your interests. SATs do need a retake because those ivies do look closely at the writing score.

SAT II Scores just came back:

US History: 800
Math II: 770
Chemistry: 780

bump (10 char)

Took SAT again:

Reading: 700 ( -80 from first test)
Math: 760 ( remained the same)
Writing: 700 ( +50)

So even though my reading went down my 80 points… my combined score went up by fifty.

Should I bother retaking?

So combined I’d have a 2240 which is pretty decent imo…

bump bump bump (char)

You have basically chanced yourself but I’ll agree with you and say that your stats look a lot like mine (except for the five million APs). You’re so luck your school is able to offer so many. I think you’re totally in at Emory and most likely in at Duke. I think Penn is probably your best shot at an Ivy but I’d also consider Columbia, Brown, Georgetown, Vanderbilt, or Stanford. But maybe you’ve already done that.

Also, don’t sweat what people on here say about your ECs. They’re great especially the Odyssey of the Mind & Drum Major stuff. Good luck!
Chance me back please.

Also, most colleges only look at the SAT writing to make sure you take it and consider only your combined CR & Math score for admission. That gives you a 1540 and thats FANTASTIC!

^Ivies look at Writing. Most colleges only look at CR+Math, but ivies look at all three equally.

Yeah I know Ivies do look at writing. I’m thinking about taking it again… ugh… -_-

Also all my AP scores came back and I got 5s on all of them. i’m pleased.

bump. Deffered at Yale SCEA.

Likely’d at Duke.

Accepted to Duke, Dartmouth, UPenn, Emory, and Stanford.
Rejected: HYP & Brown

Matriculating to Stanford.

Hope this thread helps future applicants. Cheers.

I think that if you get your SAT score up, you’ll become a serious contender at most of those schools. Your ECs are good, no doubt, but keep in mind that in some of the top schools, you’re going to be compared against people who have a lot more ECs than you do. Good luck!

Seeing that most people thought that your ec’s weren’t good enough for places like Stanford but you still got in, what do you think made you stand out? Were you like a low income/urm/legacy, or did you retake the sat and write an amazing essay for your applcation?

No, I am not URM/ORM, Legacy, or low-income.

My Stanford essays were by far the best that I wrote. BY FAR. I was very very excited about submitting my application. I think this is definitely what tipped the scale in my favor.

Additionally, I submitted a composition supplement and I’m guessing that whoever reviewed my composition was impressed, likewise for all the other schools I got accepted into.

I took the ACT (34) and submitted it as well, but I doubt it was a deciding factor in my app.
