Here goes nothing =)
my GPA is a 4.0 unweighted and will be a 4.21 UW by the end of this semester. For senior year I am gonna take AP English Lit, AP Calc BC, AP Stats, AP Psychology, AP Chem/AP Physics C and AP Human Geo.
I got a 1980 on my SAT (BIG dissapointment. Will be retaking in June... shooting for 2100).
Took the ACT and am awaiting my scores... expecting a 32 this time around.
Extracurricular wise, I am doing a ton of volunteering. This year I decided to do hospital volunteering and so far I have around 80-90ish hours at the hospital(doing 4 a week). Freshman and sophmore year I did volunteering at the school and at the library. Also, the summer after sophmore year, I helped out at a bball camp and helped kids read at a local library. Overall, I probably have around 200 hours?
As for awards, freshman year I won the all A's award, geomerty student of the year, and communication applications student of the year. Sophmore year (at my new school), I recieved the principals honor roll. This year, I won the Discus Award, an academic letter (for receiving a high GPA), and the prinicpal's honor roll. I will also be awarded several awards for the congressional award (probably bronze, silver, and gold certificates).
As for clubs, freshman year I was part of the student council (student ambassador). Sophomore year I was part of the spanish club, red cross club, and model UN. I couldnt become anything too big (i.e. president) because I left my old school when I moved to colorado springs. This year, I will be part of the national honor society and hopefully, soon, I will be part of the teen council for volunteers at the hospital. As for next year, I will be a member of STAH, Link Crew, and NHS. I am also going to make my own club and will be the president of it (Cricket Club---the sport).
This summer, I am going to self study for 1-4 AP Courses and will do calculus work.
I know it isnt the most impressive... but what are my chances at the UCs, Ivy leagues, and stanford? Thanks, I appreciate the input.
Will Chance back!!!

bump…anyone?

please… I really want to know where I should apply. All advice appreciated! Thanks guys!! =)

Ivies:
You have a shot at all of them except probably HYP. That of course could change based on URM status or income bracket, but the reason I’m quick to say you’ve got small chances there is because there will be thousands that apply like you, in almost every sense. I didn’t see anything that differentiates you, but then I again, I kind of skimmed your whole thing. Break it up into paragraphs, bro. Hahaha, good luck.

UC’s-
If you’re in state, solid chance at all except Berkeley, way too hard to tell there. I’d be surprised if you didn’t get in everywhere except Berkeley as in state applicant. You’ve got solid stats. If you’re out of state, your chances are significantly lower, and it’s not even funny how much lower. Transfer student will be given higher priority than you unfortunately.

Also, take our opinions with a grain if salt. It’s impossible to tell but I tried my best based on what I do know. Best of luck.

You are a pretty good applicant, and you have a shot at all schools.

thanks addymithas and diagnostician! Appreciate it. Just in: got a 30 on the ACT… normally scored 33+ on practice. Assuming that this does not go up when I take it in June, what colleges should I be looking at with a 30? Again, I REALLY appreciate it!

A 30 is a solid score. A high GPA can make up for lousy test scores, and 30 is far from lousy. To add to that, you have a perfect UW GPA, so I’d say you still have a shot at all your schools. I would suggest taking it again though, this time maybe analyzing reasons for your lower score than you get in preactice. Perhaps a case of test anxiety?

You have a reasonable shot at the ivies and UC’s but do apply to match schools and safeties because fact is, you never know. Best of luck!

Hey thanks for chancing me :)

I agree with addy, you are a very good applicant.

Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and Stanford are all crapshoots, but you definitely are a reasonable reach for all of them…

As for UCs, you should be set for all in states, and as for out of states, I would still be surprised if you got rejected from any of them…

Good luck!

Thanks guys I really appreciate it! I wasnt sure if I should be applying at Ivy league range/UCs or 2nd teir colleges. Now I have a better idea. I will be hitting the books and will hopefully improve my SAT and ACT scores by a bunch. Any one else?

You have a perfect GPA for those schools, biggest concern you should have is raising your SAT scores. Other than that you should apply!

If you raise your SAT scores you’ll have a decent shot, but with a less than 10% admissions rate it really becomes a crapshoot. Right now chances are slim, try the ACT/SAT and get above 2100 for a shot, 2200 puts you in a better position

Chance Me Back Please?

idk about hyp, but your ec’s look pretty decent
get that club goingg

also… maybe i didnt read too closely…but are you a junior?

ap courseload DOES matter, but self-studying for ap exams IS A WASTE OF TIME if you arent getting college credit for it
they dont use ap exam scores in admission
…perhaps hyps would just glance over, but seniors are telling me it reallyyyy doesnt matter

get that sat score up :p

and chance me back if you can? i just made a thread

Thanks guys! And I am a junior now and have chanced the two of u! And yes, I do need to improve me scores… any suggestions on a book? I am really looking for a 2100+ and a 32+ (which is definitely possible without studying). Maybe Barron’s 2400 for the SAT for the level 4 and 5 problems?

and as for the self studying, I still am not sure if I will be accepted into ivy leagues-even the “lower” ones-and thus want to be able to get college credit if I do end up going to a 2nd or 3rd tier school.

I’d start of with Barrons and Direct Hits SAT Vocab. After you are done with Barrons take the Blue Book Official SAT practice tests. For the ACT, I found that the official ACT Red Book was very helpful.

ok, cool. I already bough Direct hits vocab (suck at vocab… could really pull my CR up) and have been practicing with the blue book. I went over some of the tests i took at the end of the summer last summer and found out that alot of the math ones I missed were really easy ones. If I were to take these right now, the book predicts 720-800 (compared to a 680 on the real one I took in May). So hopefully I will be able to pull it up to 2100/200 with hard work in the next 3 weeks =)

blue book ftw

the only thing that sucks about the blue book is that there are no explanations- just answers…

anything over 2000 on the SAT will be good enough for most of the colleges out there. You should think about taking SAT II tests and have more time in volunteeering. You’re in great shape man

You have a really great shot at the UCs! As we all know, Ivies+Stanford are crapshoots. But definitely worth applying!
