GPA/ACT seem a bit low for Cornell (and possibly UCLA and Berkeley if you’re not from CA), but you seem to be in really good shape for the other schools on your list.

To be honest, you’re probably good for most of these schools. Your grades look OK, same with your test scores. Your success will be limited by how much you can project yourself through your ECs. For more selective schools, this might be difficult, but you still have a fighting chance.

Would you mind chancing me back? CHANCE BACK PLEASE!!!

Okay, so obviously Michigan and North Carolina are among your first choices since you are applying EA to them, good choices btw, both fabulous for business. I live in NC about 20 min from UNC, and applying out of state is going to be quite a fiasco… 87% of UNC students are from in state, so you’d better expect quite a lot of competition out of state, EA will help no doubt though. The average SAT scores for out of state are about 2100 to 2250 ish, so it wouldn’t hurt to retake the ACT once more to be safe. Michigan will be a bit easier, especially b/c of the immense price tag for out of state applicants, I’m pretty sure you’ll get in there, and anyways, their undergraduate business program is ranked 3 slots higher than UNC, so you’re good on that respect. Don’t apply to Cornell, it’s curriculum cannot match those of the public ivies for business, especially not Cal. If you are interested in the ivies, may I suggest applying UPenn Wharton Early Decision? While the application is binding if they accept you, it is the #1 undergrad business program in the country, and it doesn’t prohibit you from applying EA to the schools you previously mentioned. If you can get a 33 ACT, I guarantee you that you will get into just about every school you mentioned, except maybe Vandy and Emory, which would be high matches or low reaches. With your stats as they are right now I think that you would definitely get into michigan and nyu, but some of the other ones might be difficult. Additionally, consider applying to UVA as businessweek mag rated it # 2 in the country, they rated Notre Dame #1.

Loving the feedback! Bump!

You have a really good chance at most of your schools but for those reach schools, make your essays OUTSTANDING and also if you really want to go to these schools apply early decision/action

Newton, I am leaning towards business. Not sure about the specific major though.

I think you look like a promising applicant. Your ECs are decent, not extraordinary though. Perhaps you should spend some time this summer working on some sort of entrepreneurial individual project that would help you stand out among other strong business applicants? Just something to show another facet of your leadership ability. Other than that, might want to take the ACT again and study a little beforehand to give your score a boost. I recommend “ACT 36: Aiming for the Perfect Score” by Kaplan. I didnt get a perfect score, got a 34, but the book really helped me. Your score is in range for many of the schools you name but will not necessarily help you stand out. I bet it could be raised. Good luck!

I agree with DrumWriter22. I think that doing some sort of self-run business (even if it is just lacrosse or soccer training for younger kids or tuturing or something, that would help your app a lot. Otherwise, your grades and classes look great.

You should also definitely retake the ACT with more prep (or maybe try the SAT) and try to raise it to at least 33 composite, if not 34-35.

I think you have a great chance at all these schools regardless, especially with EA at UMich and UNC.

your grades are obviously excellent, but your ACT seems a little bit low for some of these (TBH, I am more familiar with the SAT). ECs seem decent, if a little cliched. I would urge you to try to find a focus within the business umbrella because many schools can have very good programs in one concentration but not in others. Babson, for example, probably has the best entrepreneurial program in the country, but is less well represented in other areas. UCB has a great international program, but I have heard less than spectacular things about their IBanking. Best of luck, you are a very strong applicant and you will have success regardless of where you end up.
