-started a club that raises money to build schools in developing countries. I am going to a developing country this summer to build a school- member, president 12th grade, and founder of the chapter at my school. I am heavily involved w/ this and got a letter of rec from the advisor to this club, who was also my AP social studies teacher.
-school newspaper

Volunteering:
-summer of 10th grade: Blind Association in India for 3 weeks
-my local hospital for 15 hours
-so far I have 50 hours from the nonprofit I'm working w/ to start my club.

TBH, really low (high reach).
ORM <top 10% applying to science major, mediocre scores. That would have made it impossible if not for your ecs which give you a sliver of a chance.

thanks, any other thoughts? Also, I have been contacted for an alumni meeting, but I’m not sure if that means anything. I’m definitely going though.

bump 10 char

SAT is too low for the rest of the bland application

“bland application”… ok I won’t get mad lol. Anymore thoughts?

idk about your chances (i’m applying too), but i think that’s pretty sick! good work =]

thanks rockerbsbn!

I say 40%. Good luck!

-just saying but this will not help you at all- just because you say you are going to do it, does not mean you are going to do it. It is also little bit late for that. If there is any way for you to improve your chances for acceptance to be even possible, you would have to raise your class rank to be in the top 10%. Changing the school choice/major may also help if you are legitimately interested in other studies because the sciences are heavily overrepresented, especially with ORMs.

SAT is extremely low since Cornell only considers Math & Critical Reading.

Right, I realize that my writing section is the highest. I did have an alumni “interview” you can call it, even though it’s not technically an interview for Cornell, and it went fine.

Your rank and SAT’s are too low. /: I’d say it’s a high reach. /:

cornell accepts the scores of reading and maths in the range of 1290-1490, you have your scores in the given range… so don’t worry you have a good chance… all the best  :-)

some /=/ good chance

thanks for the thoughts guys…im just keeping my finger crossed and trying as hard as i can to patiently wait!

I too agree with the general consensus of the rest of the thread; your chances are most likely mid-low to mid. Although you have an SAT score on the lower end for the general applicant, as well as a couple low SAT II scores, if you did a good job in describing why Cornell should pick you as the person you are, as in exemplifying all the awesome qualities that embodies yourself, then I would say you might have a decent chance, though it would still be a reach.

Wow, everyone here is really harsh. It’s one thing to be honest, it’s another to be disrespectful by saying she has a “bland” application. Anyway, although your SAT scores aren’t the highest, they aren’t out of Cornell’s range and even though you’re not in the top 10%, your GPA is still extremely high. Your extra curriculars are amazing and I don’t understand the logic behind “saying you’re going to do it doesn’t mean you will do it.” Ultimately, colleges need to trust their applicants and you seem very honest. I’d say you have a fair chance, 40% or 50%. Good luck!

^
“and even though you’re not in the top 10%, your GPA is still extremely high”
-being lower than top 10% is disastrous to chances unless your school has a really good reputation for regularly getting kids in top 25% into Cornell. That 10% of the class that do not have the top 10% in high school are pretty much reserved for applicants with hooks, and big hooks at that. Being ORM is an antihook.

"Your extra curriculars are amazing and I don’t understand the logic behind “saying you’re going to do it doesn’t mean you will do it.” Ultimately, colleges need to trust their applicants and you seem very honest. "

Either way, doing such a thing and proclaiming yourself as president in your last year of high school would not really help your chances. Just know that if you are intent on doing this, it would not help your chances, but it will help you develop as a person and see if this is the kind of thing you want to do.

“I’d say you have a fair chance, 40% or 50%.”
You are new at this.

That isn’t to say you have no chances. You definitely have some chance, but it’s a pretty huge reach considering that it is RD we are talking about here. You may have a low-mid chance with ED.

Every time I post on here I get attacked so I am really reconsidering even visiting this site anymore. If her GPA is over 96%, that means that the remaining 20 or so students all have scores within that remaining 4%. I feel like colleges will take into account the competitiveness of her class when they see her rank. Also, your comment: “You are new at this”…isn’t everyone? We aren’t admissions counselors here. She asked for our opinions and I gave her my honest opinion in the most respectful way possible. Don’t critique it until you yourself are on the admissions committee, and if you want to correct anything I said, be respectful about it please. Some people forget that even though a computer screen separates you from whom you are talking to, it doesn’t mean manners don’t apply. desibeats, I wish you the best of luck. Stay positive!
