I think you have a good shot at both of them, though I will agree that Chicago is a SLIGHT reach; but my friend just got in and he has a 2.5 GPA - so go for it. Congrats on your awesome SAT score; you should be my tutor. Good luck. =]

He was an athlete (played lacrosse), African-American, came from a low-income family and from my understanding, had a SAT score of 2100 and his ACT was 30+. He was also apart of our It’s Academic Team.

You’ve got excellent extracurriculars, but just like everyone else is saying, your GPA is a bit low. I’d try retaking the SAT and aim for a 2250-2300 if possible. Both of them are reaches at this point, with your GPA being the only thing holding you back.

As for those who suggested safeties, I have 2 - but their safeties so I don’t really need ‘chancing’ for them. Thus, not writing them in original post.

Your GPA is definitely a bit low for UChicago and especially for Columbia so theres no denying that they’re reaches. That said, you have a great SAT Score and I’m not familiar with how much of a role URM will play, so I don’t think that they’re entirely out of reach.

You have good extracurriculars and good SAT score (though it might be a little low for those schools). Your GPA is definitely low for those schools.

Given your stats, I think Columbia and UChicago are both reaches. Take a look at a few safeties that you would be happy attending, but don’t hesitate to apply to your reaches. You never know what will happen and there really isn’t much to lose. Thanks for chancing me and good luck!

Thank you all for your insight!
If I do take a Sat II test, I’m only really prepared to shell out the money and time for one. Does anyone recommend which SAT II subjects I should take? The ones I could see myself doing well on are French, Literature and Biology. : )

I would take the SAT IIs in the AP classes you’ve excelled in. For example, I plan on taking Chem and Math 2 since I’m performing well in AP Chem and AP Calc this year.
Just a suggestion though. :)

Whoops sorry I didn’t read the part where it says your school doesn’t offer APs. HAha on that note, take them for the honors classes you’ve excelled at, whether those be calculus, chemistry, biology, physics, english, history, etc.
