35 ACT is definitely better. I only took the ACT, but I’m stronger in English so I should have taken the SAT.

The main reason I say Chicago isn’t likely is because you don’t seem to have a burning intellectual interest. Film is good, but it’s not academic. (Or at least this is how the admissions officers will see it.) Do you have an academic interest backed up by some EC’s and other awards?

Unfortunately I can’t take community college classes because of the cost.

As for my school, AP isn’t common in Canada - of course there are schools that offer them but only like 5%.
I actually went to 6 schools within my four years of highschool, none offered AP, all high caliber schools.

I considered NYU, but they don’t provide financial aid so it’s not an option.

Thanks for the insight, by the way.

As for post #2 - definitely have intellectual curiosity, hence my interest in chicago. My interest in film isn’t merely production, actually, more in the history of film, the studies in different genres, height of the hollywood studios etc. etc. - i find it fascinating.
I plan to use my essays and teacher recommendations to convey the academic interest in more traditional subjects such as biology, psychology, chemistry in which I have the highest mark school wide - 97%.

Again, thanks for the input! Really helpful to get different insights.

I think you have a chance at all of these schools. The worst that can possibly happen is you don’t get in.
University of Chicago is, in my opinion, very hard to guess. They aren’t very into numbers, even now. So I think your gpa won’t be an issue. And Chicago, perhaps more than other schools wants a well-rounded student body. With focused students. So I think your passion for theatre will help you.
Columbia is a long shot. But that’s true for everyone.
I’d say you have a decent chance for JHU. Your test scores are great and they seem pretty stats focused.
NYU I would bet you’d get in. And they do have financial aid, though it’s not know for being generous. Maybe you should apply and see?

Of course, I’m a senior in high school this year and know very little about these things. No one can tell you for sure.

Hmm. Well I certainly wish you the best of luck in either case! UChicago is a reach just because they place such heavy emphasis on academics, and i think Columbia is a high reach just because it’s a high reach for all applicants.

i’d actually say that you have a higher chance to get into chicago than columbia… my friend got into columbia last year but he had a 3.9 gpa and a 2300 SAT. chicago is hard but you have good stats. bring your gpa up and you should be a strong candidate.

I think you have a shot, but your GPA could hurt your chances. Your passion for film is definitely a plus though because it shows more about you than any other meaningless EC’s do. Best of luck to you.

HS GPA: 3.75
Currently at CCP
GPA: 4.0
My SAT was bad…1390…yeah

not that much extracurricular activities.
i plan on volunteering at the animal shelter until i graduate.

i can get more extras before i transfer.

majoring in biological sciences
i befriend all my professors, so i can get killer recommendations when i’m ready.

my top choice is UPENN, but i am considering Drexel. i don’t mind if i get in upenn lps.
i really want to get in upenn.

I’m in no way qualified to predict your chances, but from your fairly unique ecs, good sat score, and improving gpa, I’d say you have a fairly good chance of getting into U Chicago . Columbia might be a reach, but you never know!(:

Honestly, I think they’re both reaches. Columbia is a reach. The average applicant has about a 10% of making it. Unfortunately your GPA is below average, although your SAT (while very high) is about on par.

The University of Chicago is more of a match I think. The average applicant there has about a 30% chance. Since it’s your number 1 pick - be sure to make that known! Also - YES to sending in work!

Basically, you have good EC’s (not outstanding, but good :] ), and a solid SAT. I think you would have a good chance at UChicago and enjoy it there too.

Seriously. UChicago’s RD acceptance rate is below 9%. Columbia’s RD acceptance rate will likely be around 6% this year. Both are reaches for anyone.
