Chance ME/Will Chance Back

Hey Guys! Thank you for taking the time to answer this thread. I REALLY appreciate it!

Nearly qualified for AIME twice (12th is too late to help me:/)

So my reach schools are MIT, Olin, Stanford, Caltech, Havard. Also interested in GaTech, RPI, Carnegie Mellon, Amherst and Cornell. I know acceptance to any of my reach schools is highly unlikely, and I would love to go any one of them(), but I'm also trying to be realistic with this. Thank you for any input, positive or negative! I'm going to be studying Electrical Engineering, Comp Sci or both.

Harvard engineering: Reach (in fact your best Harvard bet is EE)
MIT: Reach
Olin: Reach
Caltech: Reach
Stanford: Reach
GA Tech: Low match/Match
RPI: Low match
CMU: High match
Amherst: Reach
Cornell: Reach

Ok your stats are fine but pretty much every school you are applying to is a lottery. You never know who will get into Stanford or Harvard based on stats. So every school is a reach, not because you aren’t qualified, but because everybody is a reach.

Hey!
You seem pretty solid, and I wouldn’t be scared of anything. Great ACT and SAT subj tests. GPA may be a bit low. For the schools you are asking about, they are pretty much reaches for any student so I would not get your hopes up. Best of luck!

You reach schools are in reach… You are the competitive pool no doubt… I would double check, but you act is higher than your SAT…

Search online for Sat Act comparison chart… Maybe you should just send ACT

Are you applying to any safeties?

Way too much emphasis on scores/GPA by some of the above posters, in my opinion. To get into your reach schools it’s definitely not nearly good enough to be “competitive” (if that’s a synonym for “the average applicant”). If you can’t distinguish yourself from other applicants, that’s really not good.

And to be honest, the only part of your activities that stands out at all is national honors from Mu Alpha Theta (and thousands qualify for AIME each year), and judging from the (limited) information you gave about your activities, it doesn’t seem like you have a lot of real involvement; member of honor society, fairly generic service club, etc. So from what I can see right now, I’m not convinced you should expect too much from MIT/Olin/Stanford/Harvard/Cornell/Amherst. Nevertheless, best wishes.
