Chance me - Will Chance Back

Hello,
So this is my first time really on this thing. I am a rising Junior and have been thinking about college since my freshman year. Recently although, my mother has been asking me to go on some campus visits, but the problem is I don’t know where I would fit. I am extremely interested in Georgetown, but I don’t know if it is out of my reach.

Can you tell me if I could make Georgetown and give me some other schools (preferably on the east coast) where I could fit? I was also thinking about Swat, but I feel as if that is a larger reach than Georgetown.

Also, can you tell me how to improve my application?

  • School board representative
  • MUN (2 years and plan to stay for my last 2)
  • On the Handpicked Superintendent Forum
  • In a awesome organization that gives 25,000 in grants to people in need
  • Volunteer as a teacher at my Catholic church (Will Georgetown like this?)
  • Have played the piano since 1st grade
  • Play on a soccer team (not very good though)
  • Starting my own club on politics
  • Trying to start a “Girl Talk” chapter
  • Prob gonna be on NJHS next year

I think my GPA will come up a lot next year since I will have the weight from my AP classes.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me out!!!

Oh! and I just found out I got a 4 on my APUSH test.

It’s difficult to chance without test scores. Your GPA is solid, and if you can get 1400+/31+ on your tests you’ll have a decent chance at Georgetown. However, do you really only plan to take 4 classes junior year? I would take 6 as it is the most important year of high school.

I am planning on taking more! I just included the core classes.

Definitely a decent chance as of now: Hopefully some changes.

  1. GPA should be raised if possible. 3.96 weighted is on the lower side (Your school’s weighted scale may be different from my school’s: At my school, for honors and AP courses, an A+ is a 5.3, A is a 5.0, A- is 4.7, etc.) So a 3.96 would mean you are getting Bs or B-s. Not bad, but hopefully it can be raised.
  2. Class president is fine, it shows leadership but progression would definitely be nice. So going from class president to student body president or something along those lines.
A lot of your extracurriculars seem to be revolved around membership as opposed to leadership. If you were in the MUN for 2 years, hopefully you would be able to be promoted to some sort of office, whether it’s secretary, vice president, etc. Also awards, awards, awards: Anybody can be in MUN, but not anybody can receive an award. I think from my experience there are awards for being a really good delegate?
Also, most of your awards are local/regional: Impressive, but be wary of the applicant pool. Think of how many other kids will have local awards similar to yours, and how many kids might have national awards as well.
The organization that gives grants is appealing: But it depends on your level of involvement. What do you do for the organization? How crucial are you to its operation? etc.
Soccer is not too appealing: it shows somewhat of a well-roundedness, but it’s also pretty common among applicants; wouldn’t focus on it too much if you’re not planning on getting recruited.
Piano is nice but if you’re not doing anything special with it, it’s not going to help you. By special I mean playing concerts or part of a school band, etc.
Community service is always appealing: However, if you’re only doing a set number of hours to fulfill some school requirement, colleges will usually know. So numbers in the 100+ or 150+ hours would be spectacular.

Overall:
If you’re planning on starting those clubs, it would be extremely helpful if you do and if they become a hit, that would be great. You’re lacking in leadership positions and big state/national awards.
Also, test scores are extremely important. I think Georgetown asks for 3 subject tests, and so you would need to nail pretty good scores (maybe ~720+). SAT/ACT scores are also very important.
I would definitely work hard on your essays: They will need to make you stand out. As of now, most of your EC’s seem pretty standard for any applicant pool. Your essay should highlight why despite your common EC’s, you are a unique candidate. You can do that be going into depth about a specific EC and how it changed your life/altered your world view, etc. (Maybe an essay on your involvement with the organization that gives grants?)

Course rigor is strong and extracurriculars are definitely very good- Class President is looked on especially favorably by by adcoms. Very good chances in my opinion (current rising senior thinking of applying to Georgetown).

I think you have really good chances in all honesty,… What is GPA out of? How are you spending your summers (make sure you are doing something)!

Your extracurriculars are really solid and Georgetown looks at that. Their average SAT score of the new 1600 SAT is 1400 and like someone else said they do require three SAT subject tests so make sure you get those. Their average GPA is a 4.0 so you will need to raise yours to have a better chance of getting in. Their average ACT score is a 31 so maybe take that test too to see if you’ll be competitive for Gtown

bump

You are in good shape however your SAT/ACT scores will determine whether or not you improve your chances. You have good extracurricular. You should aim to improve your GPA and aim for high SAT/ACT scores and you should be in good shape. Good luck!

BTW my UW GPA is a 3.81, and I stared a political science club at my school!

BTW can you also chance me to; Bryn Mawr, Penn, Bucknell, NYU, Dickinson, and George Washington.

tough to chance with no test scores. Grades are there, maybe a low reach. Check out BC, Villanova, Providence and Loyola MD if you like that type of school. Please chance back.

BTW can you also chance me to; Bryn Mawr, Penn, Bucknell, NYU, Dickinson, and George Washington.

BUMP! Can you chance me for Penn ED the USMMA (legacy), and West Point
