Chance me? (will chance back)

Basic Information:
Caucasian male from competitive high school in Connecticut, sends one or 2 grads to HYPSM each year and several others to Hopkins, Brown, Georgetown, etc.

GPA/Stats:
Unweighted 3.9
Weighted GPA - I have not seen the school's data on this or taken the time to perform my own calculation, but if I had to guess I would estimate 4.5-4.6. (I may be totally out of the ballpark with that, though, so take with a grain of salt)
Top 10% of class (school doesn't rank beyond deciles)

Test Scores:
SAT I: 2250 = 800W, 770CR, 680M
Subject Tests: French 780, US History 760, Math Level II 720
AP Exams:
French Language 5, American History 5, English Lit 5, Statistics 4
I will have taken 9 AP's by the time I graduate and my school only offers about 15, several of which are in foreign language.

EC's:
Varsity cross country & track (will be captain senior year, named to all-league teams, being recruited by D3 schools)
President of International Relations Council
President of Student Senate
Debate Team Captain & qualifier for national tournament
Model UN - have participated in lots of conferences, won delegate awards at Penn, JHU, and Harvard
Volunteer tutor/mentor for children with a refugee organization
P/T Job in a clothing store, year round
Band

Awards:
See above (listed with EC's), also have won Columbia Univ. Book Award, 1st place in nation on National French Exam, various school awards for different classes

Strong recs, essays will be (hopefully!!) good

Schools:
Penn
Harvard

Swarthmore
Tufts
William & Mary
American
Boston University
(suggest any others you think would be a good fit?)

**When you respond include a link to your "chances" thread & I'll contribute

Hmm, let’s see.

My only concern is with the liberal arts schools on here. That is, Tufts, Swarthmore, and Brown (isn’t liberal arts, but is liberal leaning). You have all the stats neccessary, but for those schools I just mentioned, they will want to know you. They’ll want you to be creative, fresh, and driven. They tend to reject the generic student.

I’m not saying that’s you. What I’m saying is that you will need to prove to them that you AREN’T the generic student.

However, the other ones you should be good on. Harvard will be a reach though.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/738568-chance-me.html

I wouldn’t exactly say that you are a generic applicant. Four of your activities seem to be somewhat interrelated, so as long as you show a focus on/drive for a particular subject area I think you will be alright.

I think your ECs are strong. You play a sport, and are involved in a handful of political clubs which you have leadership positions in. Make sure you write some great essays, and you’ll be set.

please and thank you

I think you’re a pretty good match for most of the colleges you listed. Harvard’s a reach for everyone. I don’t know much about the liberal arts colleges you have listed, but you’re probably a low reach at most everywhere else.

good job
chance back

you have a good chance at most of the schools. the bottom half of your list is mostly a match but the top half especially harvard can be unpredictable. you should get in 60% of your schools at worst. The first place in nation on french exam cant hurt either. :)

Wow congrats on the French Exam! impressive.

Anyways, I would say that you have a good chance at most, if not all of these schools. However, if you retook your SAT I and improved your math score, you might have slightly better chances.

I like the focused ECs. Maybe bring up your Math SAT I and SAT II scores by 20-40 points.

Penn: mid-reach
Harvard: reach (for everyone)
Brown: reach
Johns Hopkins: high match
Georgetown: high match
Swarthmore: high match
Tufts: match
William & Mary: match
American: probably in
Boston University: probably in

With your focus on political affairs, I think Georgetown would be a great fit.

Are you a native speaker of french?

wow great GPA, solid SAT score, and VERY impressive ECs! the thing is that you stand out because you have these prestigious awards on a state/national level, and the semi-being recruited for XC also boosts your chances (runnning FTW!)

Penn: lowww reach
Harvard: Reach
Brown: high match
Johns Hopkins: High Match
Georgetown: High Match
Swarthmore: idk? i’d say high match…
Tufts: high match
William & Mary: low match-safety

you have a fantastic resume- but you knew that already, just write good essays/recs! :)

I’m curious… what type of debate do you do?

Penn- slight reach
Harvard- huge reach
Brown- slight reach
Johns Hopkins- low match
Georgetown-high match
Swarthmore- probably high match
Tufts- in
William & Mary- low match
American- safety
Boston University- safety

chance back please
