Chance me (Will chance back)

Hi guys,

I was wondering if you guys could assess my "resume" to see whether I have any chance of getting into these colleges:
Cooper Union
Columbia
Cornell
Carnegie Mellon
URochester
UDel Honors Program
Rutgers

So here it is:
GPA: 4.1 Weighted (No ranking) (around 3.8 -3.9 unweighted?)
Courseload/APs: Took/Taking all science APs and Calc AP (Rest are all Honors)
ACT: 31
SAT: 2200, 670 CR, 730 W, 800 Math
SAT IIs: Chemistry 800, Physics 710, Math Level 2 800

Extracurriculars:
-High school band and wind ensemble for 4 years (section leader this year) (also orchestra)
-All-state, regions, county band on clarinet and alto clarinet
-Math Club for 4 years (treasurer last year, president this year)
-Club that goes to nursing home frequently (secretary last year) (2 years)
-AMC 10, 12, and ARML participant
-ABRSM Piano Playing Auditions Level 5 and 6 (passed and passed with merit)
-ABRSM Theory Exam Level 5 (passed)
-Local community band for 2 summers
-school clarinet choir for 3 years
-peer tutoring math
-Church chamber orchestra for 2.5 years (concertmaster role)
-New Jersey Science League (Chem I and II) (ranked 80th for Chem II) (is rank worth mentioning?)
-New Jersey Governor's School of Engineering and Technology (competitive summer program where only 1 or 2 from each school is recommended to apply and only 25% get in)
-Columbia SHP
-Mission trip to Argentina

It's not much but i hope you guys can give me some feedbacks and tips.

Oh my intended major is Chemical engineering

1) Your GPA is fine.
2) Courseload seems fine enough.
3) Good that you want to major in chemical engineering and also have an 800 in Chemistry. I would not mention the rank in that competition, however.
4) Precisely what does a treasurer do in a Math Club? This maybe one of the great mysteries of life.
5) You seem very dedicated to music – you should expound upon that in your essays.

Columbia and Cornell would be hard to get into, only because you need more EC involvement in your areas of interest (i.e. chemistry).

Cooper Union - High match
Columbia - Reach
Cornell - Lower reach
Carnegie Mellon - Match
URochester - Match
UDel Honors Program - Can’t say
Rutgers - In

Creds look good minus the CR score and Physics (it has a really good curve). It’d be good if you could show a 5 on an AP English test to balance out that low CR score. Well… I don’t know if colleges think like that, but I would :)

Good luck!

weinsteinace17:
I wish I had done more chemistry ECs, but things like chem olympiad requires you to be a citizen and I am only a permanent resident. But I am positive I took nearly full advantage of things I could have done. I did a lot of math competitions though if that helps?

Cooper Union - Don’t know this school
Columbia - Reach
Cornell - Low Reach
Carnegie Mellon - Match
URochester - In
UDel Honors Program - Don’t know about it
Rutgers - In

Your SAT’s are sort of on the lower end for Columbia, but your application seems pretty complete and I think you have a decent shot of getting in.

If you could chance me back I’d really appreciate it:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/816973-chances-top-schools-will-return-favor.html</a></p>

You should be in at Rutgers, Rochester, CMU, and Cornell would be a high match but I’d be surprised if you didn’t get in. Columbia is a reach.

I was actually considering Cooper Union until recently. I figured I didn’t have a good shot anyway, and I don’t know much about their admissions process, but I’ve heard CU isn’t good on the social life  Full tuition is a plus though

Your ECs are excellent, but be aware that some schools like Columbia don’t look highly on transcripts and will probably give it a one-second look.

Chance me back! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/816797-rd-columbia-engineering.html</a></p>

I applied Cornell ED, but does that significantly boost my chances?

ED at any school will boost your chances. I think since you did to ED, considering your stats, you will probably get in.

Colom, Corn-low reach
Carn, Rochester-low match

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/816994-chances-will-return.html</a></p>

In at rochester and delaware, along with rutgers.
Carnegie Mellon is a match but low match, should be in
ivies are a high match

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/815067-chances.html</a></p>

I think, particularly at Cornell, the ED admit rate is significantly higher than the RD rate.
