Chance me: William and Mary ED1 2024

I’ve seen this done a lot. . . so

GPA: 98.6/100 (never received a B or a grade below a 93%)
ACT: 31/32 superscore (28 math, 27 science, 36 reading, 35 writing)
By the time I graduate, I will have taken 9 APs: AP Human Geo-4, APUSH-5, AP Lang-5, AP Euro-4, AP stat, psych, lit, bio, and french.
I’m applying out of state from PA

I’m a member of the All American Model UN team, president of my school’s Model UN team (for 2 years) and have won an award at every conference I’ve been to. I am the president of my school’s Speech and Debate team (have been for 2 years) and have placed in states for 2 years in Original Oratory. I have been a member of Youth and Government for 5 yers and this year will serve as the Chief of Staff. I’m a leader of Y-CORPs (the service branch of the YMCA) and have been a youth advocate 3 times and attended the Conference on National Affairs as a freshman. I’ve been an indoor and outdoor varsity track athlete my entire high school career but have never been outstanding (I throw Javelin). I work as a lifeguard year round (about 35 hours a week). I attended the Governor’s School for International and Global studies which I’ve been told looks really good because it had a low acceptance rate. I’m hoping to major in International Relations and do ROTC.

I’ve been told my essay is really solid by 4 of my english teachers, the people I asked for rec letters from I trust fullheartedly.

My biggest concern is out of state, not being in Calculus as a senior, high absences because I was sick a lot in Junior/Sophomore year, and my bad ACT score.

I think your ACT score is pretty good! Your grades and AP’s are outstanding, and your activities sound like you’re a great candidate for any selective college. But I’m trying to wrap my brain around you working 35 hours per week? (Not sure that’s plausible, but who knows!)

My daughter applied ED as well and is applying for the ROTC scholarship. Have you had a chance to connect with the ROTC cadre at W&M?

I’d say you have a great chance!
Good luck!

Your leadership qualities are outstanding. All other scores look fine to me. You have a high chance of getting into W&M. When you do, make sure you join the International Relations Club as soon as possible! I made the best memories and built the most formidable skillsets in that club. I see that you’re very interested in IR, so give a follow to @ irclubwm on Instagram.

Best of luck, @rapp01 ! My D19 did not take Calculus in high school and got into W&M out of state.
I am wondering how you managed to lifeguard 35 hours a week during the school year, plus do all your EC’s. That does not sound possible! Maybe most of your work hours are during the summer . . .

@3SailAway

Thanks! I’m losing my mind over waiting. Also, to clarify, I work from 3-11pm 4-5 times a week during the summer and when I’m in off season for track. I shift those hours around, but it averages about 32-35 hours a week depending on the season/ECs/what I can pick up/etc.

@rapp01 that makes sense. I think you are accomplishing an amazing amount while still keeping your grades so high. I’ll be rooting for you tomorrow!

Anything yet? Decisions are out

I GOT IN!!!

Congratulations! Welcome to the Tribe.

That’s great! I’m sure you’re going to love W&M and take full advantage of all the opportunities. Congratulations!
