The deal with my GPA is that I got screwed by my school's system. I'm not used to the way the school does the grading/teaching. I know I'll be more successful at college because I've taken classes over the summer at Princeton and Recieved As in all 5 of them, but I usually end up with Bs in high school and one or two Cs. However, I have recieved As in all AP classes I have taken so far. I also got an 800 in the Chem subject which i got a C in.

Your GPA seems to be the app killer. Test scores are fine. You’re a boderline person. You probably need some luck to get in

what do you mean by borderline [in terms of numbers]?

Are you really in the top 7% or are you just being optimistic? Because that GPA is not really 7% material if you know what I mean. That 36 ACT will help no doubt but your numbers are still sort of weak. You need to show that you really love learning (intellectual vitality essay) to make sure you stand out and show them that you are not a lazy student (not saying you are but you know…)

Well a 3.29 is the person who is #55 in my class and somebody else in the top 8% has a 3.38

so I’m assuming I’m in the top 7%

Haha good call =P

I really hope your GPA doesnt kill your chances of getting in…everything else is pretty good!

Your GPA indeed does make you a very unlikely admit.

If your hs send a lot of its top students to excellent universities, then the admissions people at those universities know that your hs has a tough grading system. Your school will send all the colleges to which you apply information about its grading system and the percentage of students who receive A’s, B’s, etc., not to mention colleges will see that 3.4 puts you in the top 7%, and will see your rank. I guess what I’m saying is that you’re not in the same position as a person with a 3.4 at a high school where they hand out A’s like hot cakes and 3.4 puts a student in the bottom 50%.

With any luck, somewhere in your GC’s office, there is statistical information for your hs by college showing how many students with various GPA’s apply, and what percentage in each category are accepted or rejected. Go look. What percentage of students from your hs with a 3.4 and extremely high SAT’s are accepted at the colleges that interest you? If your school has Naviance, take a look.

GPA is waayyyy down the list of things they look at. write perfect essays, get phenomenal recs. the people who do that (and get in) are simply more likely to have a high gpa- not the other way around. they don’t want machines.

^ The above poster is wrong. The most important aspects of an application are GPA and class rigor.

Your SAT scores are low too. You should apply because maybe you’ll get in but you might not.

he got a 36 on his ACT… im pretty sure his test scores will be alright
