After getting my ACT score back I am starting to expand my list of colleges I will apply to this fall. I want to study political science or international relations and would love to go to Yale! I have the average scores for the ivies, however I do not know if I will get in and if I should just keep looking at lower tier schools. I will apply regular decision (is that a dumb idea?) and here are my stats
ACT: 33 composite (34 reading, 33 math)
AP’s: I have taken four, three 4’s and one 3 and am taking four more
GPA: 3.83 UW, 4.23 W
Rank: top 10% UW, top 5% W
ECs: two years of dance, two years of badminton, NHS officer, three years of student council, NHHS officer, piano for 6 years, service trip to fiji, lots of church leadership and awards, and chosen as a delegate that visited china for three weeks
Yale’s a reach-it’s a reach for everyone. You do have the stats to go to some amazing schools, however. Have you looked at Emory? Notre Dame? Those two are also very selective schools, but I think you have the stats to get in. I’ve also heard that MIT has a good program.
Georgetown has a good international relations program-I like your chances there as well.
For a safety that’d probably give you a ton of merit aid, there’s Villanova.
Apply to Yale, and maybe Columbia as well. If those don’t work out, I’d be very surprised if you didn’t get into Emory, Notre Dame, or Georgetown.
I definitely agree with the above poster. If you want to study international relations, consider Georgetown. If Yale is your dream, apply there, but have some other great options in case it doesn’t work out.
I definitely don’t think you’ll get into Yale (nothing that makes you stand out), and I don’t actually think it’s likely that you get in any of the Ivies, though I wouldn’t be shocked if you did. You really don’t seem to present any passions to me. I would consider the schools that the above posters listed.
I was told that for competent students, your chances at getting accepted at an ivy are equivalent to their overall acceptance rate
however its still worth a shot! you have a decent chance
I would also recommend georgetown especially since its in dc and would grant you great political opportunities
